Tutorial scenario

Post by rickier65 »

When starting the game, the option for enable immediate action is checked on my installation. In order to get to the tutorial, I had to go to File --> New then I unchecked the enable immediate action check box. I don't think this should be checked by default.

I've spent a little time going through the Tutorial from the manual starting on Page 15. I was having a difficult time following this, until I recalled that there was an in-game version of the orders. The manual skips over the tutorial section on setting the submarine group into motion. The manual appears to have left out sections 2.1 - 2.5 from the in-game tutorial orders.

It would make it easier to follow if those sections were in the manual (though I'm sure it's much too late for that). Unfortunately, you cant leave the in-game orders report open while issuing orders in the game which means opening the Reports--> Orders reading the section then closing the window and following along.

Once I got them moving, I failed to have any contact other than SOSUS contacts. I think I'll try this again. I seem to recall I had this issue the last time I started playing this. I had hoped it was addressed in this release. It's a small thing in the in the realm of the whole project, but I imagine new players will see this Tutorial as a way to learn the game and this may discourage them.

Just my opinion of course, and probably pretty minor issue, especially for the folks that are already knowledgeable Harpooners.

Thanks
rick

I highly suggest using WestPac 1.0 as your learning scenario. I wrote it to show off newer features of the game and also as a scenario with less randomness of detection than GIUK 1.0.

A scrape of the orders is available at:
http://harpgamer.com/harpforum/index.ph ... owfile=263

The manual is pretty but imho lipstick (Matrix did a great job making it pretty) on a pig, we could certainly use help on that front; little interest in the current crop of volunteers for updating the help!

I would encourage you to replace the tutorial section in the manual with the one you think works better for this release. There may well be plenty of lurkers taht will be put off by the Tutorial not really matching the current game.

EDIT; I just grabbed your Orders file and put it into the HUCE manuals directory

thanks
