Hannibal: Rome and Carthage in the Second Punic War Is Updated

Hannibal: Rome and Carthage in the Second Punic War is a new and innovative turn-based strategy game that puts you in command of the Carthaginian military during a period of total war over land and sea with the young Roman Republic. With this military juggernaut of the ancient world at your disposal, you will vie for control over Italy, Carthage, Spain and the Mediterranean Sea using a combination of strategic political maneuvering and sheer tactical skill both on land and sea. Play consists of two layers; the first is a strategic layer where you must prudently steer your forces to the destruction of Rome’s army and the ultimate destruction of the Republic and city itself. At your disposal are a variety of unit types and historical commanders from which to form your armies. On the tactical scale, when meeting the enemy in battle, skilled leadership and a knack for war come into play as you use a simple but engaging battle system to best your opponents.

Hannibal: Rome and Carthage in the Second Punic War Is Updated

Post by SeanD »

Several AI improvements, fixes, and some tweaks have been sighted crossing the Rubicon!

Matrix Games and Forced March Games (www.forcedmarchgames.com) are proud to release the comprehensive 1.02 update for Hannibal: Rome and Carthage in the Second Punic War. The update most notably includes a half dozen AI improvements to give Rome an extra edge in some important areas like avoiding mountain attrition and sending relief efforts to a besieged Rome. A handful of bug fixes and tweaks also come with the update in addition to a few rule changes that mostly affect Roman recruiting and retreat options when in Italy.

David Heath, Director of Operations at Matrix Games, said “Even without this latest update, the AI on the hardest difficulty was quite ferocious but these AI improvements should help tighten up Rome’s game even more. We’re happy to continue to support the efforts of Forced March Games in expanding and improving Hannibal, even if it puts our dear Carthage in greater peril!”

I need a simpler level instead of harder. Now I'll never beat the Romans if I install this update. [8|]

The "Introductory" level should not be appreciably harder with this update. The "Normal" level should not be very much harder, either. I tried to leave the first two levels pretty much alone. A couple of small things that were added to the AI also apply to the "Introductory" and "Normal" levels, because of the way some AI code is shared among all levels of difficulty.

The increased ability to handle a siege of Rome, for instance, applies mostly to the "Hard" level.

I increased - slightly - the resources available at the Introductory level. I hope that the first level won't be harder for you.

Please try the new update and tell us how you do.

Disagree.
The Hard level is now just right and a real challenge. I was able to win a squeaker playing Hard, rather than winning every time by a pretty comfortable margin. the Romans do a better job, and Rome is impossible to assault without wearing it down (which it should be if history is the guide).
