Order Delays

Command Ops: Battles From The Bulge takes the highly acclaimed Airborne Assault engine back to the West Front for the crucial engagements during the Ardennes Offensive. Test your command skills in the fiery crucible of Airborne Assault’s “pausable continuous time” uber-realistic game engine. It's up to you to develop the strategy, issue the orders, set the pace, and try to win the laurels of victory in the cold, shadowy Ardennes.
Command Ops: Highway to the Reich brings us to the setting of one of the most epic and controversial battles of World War II: Operation Market-Garden, covering every major engagement along Hell’s Highway, from the surprise capture of Joe’s Bridge by the Irish Guards a week before the offensive to the final battles on “The Island” south of Arnhem.

Order Delays

Post by BK6583 »

I think Mark Shot may have covered this but I wanted to do a sanity check. Playing the Manhay Crossroads scenario as the US. Even with order delay set at none, I cannot get one starting unit to move or do anything. They go straight to rest and stay there. Now I know that very fatigued units will 'ignore' orders and go to rest but even units starting with what I would term low to medium fatigue will not do anything but rest. When reinforcements arrive later that evening that definitely are not fatigued, they also go straight to rest. Then at dawn all of the US units will now respond to orders. Is there a built in delay in orders for the US in this scenario? I know this is the case in scenarios as the US in the first day or so, but this scenario is a bit later in the battle. Right now the German AI seemingly runs all over the map while I just sit there and watch helplessly. Am I missing sometging here?

When you give orders, select "none" for the rest options at bottom. Since the scenario starts at night, your units will automatically rest unless you tell them not to.

Yes, what Nimitz says is correct.

Also, take into account that in many scenarios the Allies start with a huge (sometimes 400%) initial order delay, gravitating to the normal 100% in the first several hours. This was done to model the initial surprise and combat disorganisation due to inexpected German offensive.

I haven't checked if that's the case in Manhay Crossroads scenario as well, but that's where I'd put my bets.

Anyway, you can easily see this information at the very beginning of the Allies briefing.

Cheers.

Ok - thank you! Follow on question: In that same scenario my supply base 'convoys' are getting killed (100% losses in some cases) trying to resupply cut off units. How do I turn off supply just for those units - click 'none' in the orders screen for these units for fuel and ammo?

You can't turn off the supply convoys to a particular unit. However, supply route checks are done at time of despatch and at time of delivery. If there is known enemy influence along the route at time of despatch, then the supply run will be scrubbed automatically. So for the run to continue the route must be clear. This means that subsequent action by the enemy has closed the route and hence the resulting loss of your supply column.

Is there a short cut key that tells me which parts of the map are in supply or out of supply?

F7 will show which units are in or out of supply, as of their last supply run.

To rephrase:  if I move troops over there can they obtain supply?

Hi,

To the best of my knowledge the answer to your "rephrase" is a firm maybe. E.G. it may well be that as of right now the coast is clear for a supply column to reach your unit(s) but that could change during the time it takes the column to actually travel to your troops. Vice versa also applies. This is radically different from the tradional IGOUGO turn based approach to supply. In this game everything is changing all of the time instead of only some of the time during a designated turn.....
It takes getting used to...........

Hope this helps.[:)]

Moving units showing "red" over to where units are showing "green" for supply is a good idea if you really need to get more ammo and food.
