I've heard of fog of war, but this is nuts

OK, I've got two problems, which are probably linked. When I'm installing the game, all the files install correctly, but then, when it gets to Arial font, the install program freezes up, and I have to close it. I tried the install a couple times, but it still didn't work. So I crossed my fingers and hoped that everything I had missed was just shortcut installation and other extras. I ran the .exe from the game directory, and everything started up fine. I then loaded the tutorial scenario. To my surprise, there was no map. A lot of red and green icons, and a bunch of blue dots (beaches?), but the rest of the map was black. Help?
I'm running Win XP.

That really sounds like a video error and I would make sure you ahve the latest Direct X and video drivers. I run XP and have no problems.
