Making new race flags

Post by karstenchu »

Ok, I'm trying to make a new race flag for the Imperium of Man. I took a .jpg and in OpenOffice Draw I resized it and exported it as a .wmf. I think I must need to do something with transparency or something because in game it shows up with the eagle as the right color but the rest of it is white. I uploaded a copy of the file I am trying to use.

I've made a few flags so far, but had to draw them all by hand. I can't be sure but perhaps the problem is it's not completely black and white, there's alot of grey in the image.

The program I use is only a trial version so I've only got about 15 more uses left before I have to pay for it. It's called Metafile Companion. Download here: -http://www.softpedia.com/get/Multimedia/Graphic/Graphic-Others/Metafile-Companion.shtml

Hey Igard, thanks for the reply!

I was actually able to figure it out after a few hours. I think they greyscale was an issue, as you said, but the other thing that was a problem was that my white wasn't set as transparent. I found that the easiest way to make these flags is to

1. Get your image in .bmp format.
2. Use GIMP to select the exterior color, the white around my eagle for instance.
3. Invert your selection to select the interior.
4. Fill in with pure black.
5. Cut and paste the pure black interior to another pure white canvas.
6. Download and use the program "Total Vectorize" download here to turn it into a .wmf file.
7. When given the option, set the background as transparent while saving your .wmf file.
8. ???
9. ???
10. PROFIT!!

No worries! If you try it out, let me know if I got all the steps right. I'm sure it'd be more helpful if it were entirely correct :)

That "TotalVectorize" was just what I needed to get my flags working and ingame.
WMF is such a stupid format. :/

It's on the modders wishlist to have it changed. Whether it will or not, I don't know, there's not really much point in the flags being WMF other than to display the race colours.
