Wanted: A "back" button

Gary Grigsby’s War in the East: The German-Soviet War 1941-1945 is a turn-based World War II strategy game stretching across the entire Eastern Front. Gamers can engage in an epic campaign, including division-sized battles with realistic and historical terrain, weather, orders of battle, logistics and combat results.

The critically and fan-acclaimed Eastern Front mega-game Gary Grigsby’s War in the East just got bigger and better with Gary Grigsby’s War in the East: Don to the Danube! This expansion to the award-winning War in the East comes with a wide array of later war scenarios ranging from short but intense 6 turn bouts like the Battle for Kharkov (1942) to immense 37-turn engagements taking place across multiple nations like Drama on the Danube (Summer 1944 – Spring 1945).

Wanted: A "back" button

Post by nukkxx5058 »

In the OOB, sometimes, when I click on the cross, it closes the window, some other times, it goes back to the last screen. This is not very clear and many times I would like to stay in the OOB screen but I am pushed out and have to return.

It would be great if a "BACK to last screen" button was implemented on all windows ...

Maybe in the next patch ? :-)

You can press the Esc key and close all windows.

yes, it closes the windows I noticed it, but this is precisely my point ! My point is precisely to come back to the previous window without closing anything ... just to come back to the previous window.... it would be great. Hope I m clear enough ... :-)

We can add it to the wish list.  No promises though.

Depending on the type of the window you may get back just be right clicking, otherwise you need to use hot keys for switching between info screens.

yes, just a "back" button would be great. I am sure millions will rally me soon after they will be kicked back out of the OOB :-)

He means going from the OB screen directly to a unit info window on the map by clicking on the unit. Once on the map, the best way to go directly back to the OB screen is the hotkey 'o'.

If you press o and go to the Order of Battle screen, and then click directly on a unit's name, you are taken to the map and the unit detail window for that unit appears. In order to go directly back to the OB screen, press o again, or click on the button in the Info Screens tab for the OOB screen. There is no "back up to prior screen button" per se, but there is a hotkey for all the info screens so it is easy to get back to those quickly.

Now I get it. It took just 10 posts :)

Ok, I'll think how to enhance it.

The "o" shortcut is a good and helpful one, thx. However, I really think that a "back" button, bringing you back to previous screen would be great. You know , just like in an internet browser, "BACK" to last page viewved.

I also like the idea of a "back" button. Actually, optimally I'd like a back hotkey. Mousing tires my hands fast, so the more hotkeys, the better.

I asked for this whilst testing, Pavel, and you didn't know what I meant then, either!   [;)]   I didn't want to press the point because of your large machine gun...[:)]

Add me to the millions for a 'return to previous window' button (or 'back' button) when looking at the unit details windows.

Add me for a 'return to previous window' button (or 'back' button) too.

And:
Often you can also browse back by clicking the right mouse button.
Sometimes it works - and sometimes not? [:(]

You should also consider to cultivate this convenient function.

If a back button is implemented, please make it so it takes you back to the same scroll spot you were looking at before, so you don’t have to scroll through the list again to try and find your place.

Also please please please make it so when you expand the OOB list by pressing the + symbol, that the list doesn’t reset all the way to the top. This is most aggravating when you’re searching the list for a specific unit.

And finally I’d love a global command to put all air regiments into the national reserve. I’m anal about how I organize my air forces, so I dump them into reserve and sort them out into similar deployments later. Placing them all into reserve at the start of the game one regiment at a time takes forever.

This brings up a question, do air regiments in the national reserve train and gain morale, or should I get them back into units asap, even before they fill up their TO&E’s? Please forgive me if this is in the manual, I won’t be reading it in full until the printed version arrives.

There is two types of windows:

1. Map "popups" - all kind of detailed windows. Unit, group, leader, leader, etc.. Since they have connection with each other - unit->hhq->leader, unit->ground element, etc, you can use right click to get back to the previous screen

2. Independent informational screens - Losses, Production, OOB, Commander Report, Weather, etc.. There windows can get called with a shortcut. Sometime you can get from informationa window to the popup, but there is no logical connection between them code wise.

Theoretically it is possible to implement all kind of "back", "forward", "bookmark", "history" buttons and make it look as Firefox :), but it is not that easy task. In many cases there is simple no free space on the windows. And making a separate hot key would be a duplication.

I suggest to play a little more and you should be really comfortable with interface and hotkeys - there is not that many of them :)

This one is easier to do. Will take a look.

Such function already exists in Commander's Report

Air groups in national reserve should be flying training mission. When moved to reserve they are getting single morale boost as well.
