Air transports (Ju-52) not flying supply missions

Gary Grigsby’s War in the East: The German-Soviet War 1941-1945 is a turn-based World War II strategy game stretching across the entire Eastern Front. Gamers can engage in an epic campaign, including division-sized battles with realistic and historical terrain, weather, orders of battle, logistics and combat results.

The critically and fan-acclaimed Eastern Front mega-game Gary Grigsby’s War in the East just got bigger and better with Gary Grigsby’s War in the East: Don to the Danube! This expansion to the award-winning War in the East comes with a wide array of later war scenarios ranging from short but intense 6 turn bouts like the Battle for Kharkov (1942) to immense 37-turn engagements taking place across multiple nations like Drama on the Danube (Summer 1944 – Spring 1945).

Air transports (Ju-52) not flying supply missions

Post by CharonJr »

Hi,

maybe I have overlooked something, but my Ju-52s decline to fly any air supply missions, only lots of level bombers show up when I shift-click on the intended target hex/unit.

Range cant be the issue since even when I try to air supply a unit sitting very close to an airbase with 100% ready (0% flown) Ju-52s I still end up with only being able to select bombers.

I know that I have air supplied units before and have no idea what I could have done to prevent me from doing so now. The airbases are located on clear hexes, too.

Any ideas ?

Fly missions before you move bases. Did you move them?

Nope, didnt move them since I was not sure if the transports would be affected like the bombers are for flying air supply missions (IIRC only the bombers should not be able to fly, but to be on the save side I decided to do no moves anyway).

That sounds like a bug.

What version are you using, CharonJr and redmarkus?

Can you also select fighter escorts, or only bombers?

I checked the latest version, and my Ju 52 squadrons are appearing like they should.

Downloaded the 1.01_3 beta earlier today, but IIRC I had the same problem with v2 yesterday, then I thought that I have been moving my bases and that this had prevented me from flying - which is why I took another look at the manual and saw that while the bombers would have been grounded at least my transports should have been able to fly during daytime (unless I missed something in the manual).

I'll post about the issue on the tester forum, this isn't WAD.

I can't tell from the ss; is the 13th LW within five hexes of the Fliegerkorps?

It should be since I try to keep them grouped together, but will take a look.

This was a bug a long time ago and maybe it has resurfaced.  Do you have a save file that repeats the problem when you run it again.

Is it turn one?
If not they may not be flying due to air doctrine settings, if you have more damaged Ju-52 than the % required to fly they won't take off.

You can do it with Photobucket or an equivalent. If you don't have that I'll send you my email address and you can email me the file if it repeats the problem when you rerun it from the save.

Ha, I found the culprit, for some reason all my transports are set to "Night missions: YES", while I am fairly sure that I (at least not intentionally - the other aircraft I checked are set for day)) have not set them this way. Once I switch them to day missions it works again :)

Thanks for your support :)

But either I changed their mode without recalling it or there might be something in the beta code that switches transports to night missions.

CharonJr

edit: "have not" was missing ;)

Distance to HQ shouldn't matter.

Whoops, I'm still learning here (and everywhere else [:)]).
My HQ question was based upon supply need by the airbase. While I never saw the manual explictly state that air units need supply, I always assumed it did. (and just because I never saw it doesn't mean it isn't there; I've read the manual twice now and still find something new on most pages[:)])

1. Does the airbase need supply and/or fuel to fly missions? If so, what is the minimum requirement(s)?
2. Does the supply/fuel transported come from airbase stocks?
