Wounded pilots

Post by Krikke100 »

Does anybody know what happens with wounded and missing pilots? Is there a possibility they will return after a while or are they gone forever and is the distinction merely flavor. And if they do return, do they return to their original unit or in the reserve pool?

I'm asking because two of my high scoring aces just got wounded and I'm hoping they'll eventually recover.

Thanks for any answers.

Wounded pilots may return. AFAIK to their former units, hence why you can find units with 150% + pilot complement.

MIA may return as well. You will see in the combat reports that certain pilots have evaded capture and returned to duty or something to that effect.

Wounded pilots may return, but usually they have lost some experience (or they lose experience when they are wounded).

MIA pilots may return as well. It's mentioned in the operational report, like this: Pilot Notomi O. is reported as to have escaped capture or Pilot Ayanori L. is reported as having been found. It might take a while (weeks) before they show up after that info, but they will be back.

Once my leading ace was MIA. It was a good moment when he was found. [:)]

i've looked thru WitPTrackerAE at my just-completed Marianas game.

for a sample of 20 USN & USA pilots who were wounded, a WIA will immediately:
decrease Experience by 5 to 9 points (mean 7.55)
increase Fatigue by 5 to 53 points (mean 12.15)

once wounded, the Fatigue decreases by one point per day, but the wound severity doesn't seem to affect the length of recovery time. One pilot w/ a 22-point fatigue increase lost his WIA status after 9 days, another with a +7 wound was back on ops after 20 days. There was also a B-24 pilot who actually flew a mission while still wounded! His fatigue went from 1 to 29 when he was wounded, then 3 days later his X-rays came back & his fatigue jumped another 10 points. After 10 more days, he flew a mission.

Wounded pilots are returning to their units. They have bad habit of doing it few days, after you filled whole unit with replacements.
