Seriously bugged tech progress

Post by Nibelung44 »

Hi,

I'm sorry to report that, because this is a major bug!

My tech progress is totally buggy. Basically it only progresses in big leap of breakthrough, and almost never by an increase in %. Here are the details:

a) I can pass several years without the tech % move a bit.

b) all of the sudden, I get breakthroughs. Note the 's'... When I get BT, I get in all 3 fields, and it also means I get BT in the queued techs too !! For example I often get 6 techs at once ... I have made screenshots of that, if you need proof. In no less that 4 occurences, I got massive BT with 4 to 6 techs given at once!

Also, I noticed something very weird. I disabled auto save, because I found the game very stable and the saving rather slow. At the end of my evening of RotS playing, I saved ... Then, even while still in pause, I got a massive tech breakthrough (again, 6 techs), plus 5 races contacting me, plus all my civilians ships which were idle at my starports since one hour now on the move.

So definitively, the save procedure woke something in the code ... Like it triggered a computation that led to an update of something... Is it weird? Given that Hearts of Iron 2 (Paradox) had almost the same problem (you needed to wake up periodically the AI by saving and reloading), it is not that weird and impossible it seems.

So there is one, perhaps 2 major problems I think. I have the save at disposal, plus several screenshots of techs massive BT, if needed.

As for the problem of dormant civilian ships that got awaken by the save, at first I thought my ships were dormant because there was a plenty of stuff in my space ports... But no, because after the save finished its work, I saw also a ton of Ketarov and other aliens races civilian ships move in the galaxy... So again, I think something is amiss here.

These problems are majors for me, they almost cripple the game and I don't remember having them in base DW. I hope I won't be ignored :)

I've never seen this before and it's not how ROTS seems to be working for everyone else, so I am very curious to see a saved game from you to see how it got into this state. Could you zip one up and upload it for us please?

Regards,

Now that I save every so often to try show you that between a long period, there is no progress ... I get a more normal behavior ... although it always progresses by rather big jump in %. But I think I'll restart a game anyway, as my civilian sector is in deficit and totally screwed.

See these 2 screenshots. In the first, I have a massive tech breakthrough of 6 techs at once!! Is this not abnormal? And I can swear you that I had this kind of 'package' regularly in my game, but without any significant progress in % on the other hand.

In the second screenshot, I was in pause, then saved. While still being in pause, at the end of the save, I got that. Tech breakthrough, plus plenty of races contacting me, plus a lot of civilian ships of many races now in space (see the group moving from Pantu? just an example), whereas they were idle before... As if the save game procedure refreshed something. As I never saved in the evening where the tech progressed by BT, perhaps this is tied?

Last, I attach you a saved game... My civilian sector is in the red. Still, I checked ALL my civilian ships. They all have fuel, but only 10% are doing something. PLUS they never move around my luxuries, only common resources. I even discovered one or two sources of ultra precious luxuries (the green regenerating fluid, don't remember its name), but it was never given to my colonies... You can check that... my freighters are idle, I have tons of stocks of many luxuries, yet, none of my planets get luxuries...

edit: ok can I attach a big file?

Hi, 'interesting' report.

Instead of trying to attach a save game file, follow the instructions here. Just add a post to this thread telling which file you uploaded to illustrate the problem.

Hm, I think I have seen some similar strange things when my laptop have gone into hibernation while playing. Once restored again a lot of game time would have passed. Could there be some problem with the your computer clock or do you usually put your computer in sleep mode without pausing the game?

Hmm, I've had my entire "private sector" go to sleep.. no bonus money coming in, no freighters moving goods, nothing till I saved again. Then everything seemed to wake up and get moving again. Military wasn't affected I don't think. But that was before I started letting the AI control my fleets.

Haha!! I'm rather sure that there is at a point a 'go dormant' bug, that get cleaned because at the end of saving a game, some recomputing are done...
