Rovno turn 1 - supply, and other questions

Post by jjdenver »

Hi,

If playing SU and facing this attack on turn 1. Is it worth trying to cut off some of the panzer spearhead? It appears that the entire spearhead could be cut off near the 6=6 INF DIV, but that would put 2 divisions (3-6, 3-11) in a perilous situation as doing this would require leaving these units stuck in the west to handle the encirclement I think. Or an encirclement attempt could be stuck in with more troops in an attempt to actually hold the Germans out of supply instead of merely cutting the controlled hexes for a single turn.

So:
A) just cut hexes to entire spearhead east of 6=6, realizing that the Germans will definitely get back into supply
B) completely cut off entire spearhead east of 6=6 and try to hold them OOS with big troop commitment
C) Just fall back east with Soviets, waiting for readiness/morale to improve while forming a line of some sort in front of panzers

If (A) is attempted, will the panzers suffer a supply shortage or will they merely open up supply immediately with no effect at all to them so long as they get back into supply on their move?

Any suggestions for other options that should be attempted? And which of the options seems to be the best Soviet move?

Thx for any opinions/info, as I try to grapple w/ ops in WITE. :)

Cheers

Cut 'em off. Don't go crazy with this, just use the minimum number of units necessary to do it. I always, always, try to cut off panzers. They'll undoubtedly get out of isolation the following turn, and this early on in the game they have a ton of supplies, but doing this will bring them heel sooner rather than later and exhaust their supplies.

Flavius (or anyone else).

Turn 4 AGS panzer gruppe makes deep penetration. Mud farther south (FYI).

Sacrifice an infantry division and a tank division to cut them off for a turn?
Fall back entirely and forget about sacrificing those 2 divisions - live to fight another day?
Commit max force to keep the panzers cut off and hope to wipe out that panzer group (longshot?)?

Advice? Thoughts?

They could resupply by air, and your units cutting off the supply line will probably get blasted back right after going in.

Do cut them off, preferably with the weakest division available (no matter how much you place in those hexes, the Germans will easily remove you, so you might as well use your weakest units) your units will be routed at worst. Form a perimeter around the surrounded forces, mostly for ZOC penalties and not to actually destroy them, which isn't going to happen at this point.
