Happy New Year

Post by bo »

That Happy New Year is directed to all the posters on this forum not to Wastelands which to me is a perfect name for this company[>:] the one good thing that came out of this patch debacle is that I am back playing Battlefronts SC game[;)]. On Dec 3rd the patch was put in the members section and then it vanished into Wasteland famous lost cyber space. I personally do not care if some stupid city in China is mispelled or any other minor nonsense that has no bearing on the game play but I do care about the supply problem that they said they would fix in this next patch. It would make sense to me right now if I was a programmer for Wastelands to put out a patch tomorrow with just the supply problem fixed [remember that one about suppling American troops down under][;)] At this point I dont really care because BF's CM Normandy is about to become a reality soon. So sit on your patch people and choke on it, but what really burns me up is that none of you so called concerned posters have said anything about the patch. Worst yet is Wastelands has said nothing in almost a month like geez people we are having troubles or we just cant get it to work, at least that is something for players here that spent good money for this game to grumble about. I guess you just dont care or its not a big deal with you, OH WELL have a nice New Year.

Happy New year too you Bo!
I gave up on this game a long time ago. It is garbage plain and simple. I'll never get robbed by wasteland again. I wouldn't even consider bitter glory, their past games hold out no promise for that one. Your post is right on the money.
Anyway, there are other games.[:)]

Hi freeboy get your butt on over there to the forums and look at all the new pictures, most estimates are 6 to 8 weeks with a demo coming

Bo, patch issue is very simple and prosaic - a lot of events took place in Matrix in the first part of December (including WItE release) and in the second part of December Matrix, like us,  is running with an abbreviated staff effective. So in effect  there  is no open window for the patch release in hot December and it is postponed until January. I`m sorry that turns of event went awry.

vanRocco, Storm over the Pacific was intended to be a beer&pretzel game, no one ever hided it. I understand that you not liked the game. I respect it, but somehow I feel sad due to effort of developers and testers which was put into the game. Considering Bitter Glory, as a person who spends 90% of its time with that game, I feel that judging  a complex game based on characteristics of beer&pretzel game might be a bit far fetched, don’t you think so?

BTW In fact Doomtrader should respond to those posts, but he is also out due to holiday...

Happy new year :)

You have a good point, but on the other hand, if you can't do "beer and pretzel" games right, how are you going too handle a more "complex" game?

I have only one problem with Doomtrader or anyone from Watelands and that is STOP leaving us hanging, a half baked reply is better than no reply at all, Arnaz your talking almost a month here with no communications about the patch and even though I dont agree with vonrocko about this game being bad but he still has an opinion right or wrong, hopefully not based on some of my posts. I will say it again I never intend to be mean or negative to anyone unless I get wrongfully slammed, do me a favor Arnaz just put out the supply patch NOW and I will leave my comments in my back pocket.

I could enumerate several reasons, but the one which is above all others is a new engine made from scratch by our programmers.

If it had been dependent solely on me I would already have done it.

Just came back to see how old bo is doing. Still an ornery old codger, albeit with an occasional good point.

The supply thing has to be fixed, and should have been. This game doesn't have to be beer and pretzels. Could be better.

I have proposed to Wastelands a variety of things which would make the game less beer and pretzely, eg:

1) implementing both 'distance from MAJOR port' and 'time at sea' limitations on carriers and BBs. The farther from a major port AND the longer at sea, those ships' effectiveness should go down significanly/alarmingly. This would put a stop to unrealistic situations, such as parking the Japanese fleet on the West Coast of the US. Or even an extended attempt to take Pearl.

2) fixing the supply/convoy problems as bo has so clearly stated

3) reducing both power and cost of air units, so that they can be used freely - right now they are far too expensive to ever use, for any country other than perhaps the USA. The air war needs to become an integral part of the game, not just eye-candy.

4) since there is no stacking, and since there are many one-hex islands/atolls, an intrinsic air strength ought to be added to every such location. This air strength would represent the recon, air cap, and air strike capability from those islands, and would be handled automatically by the game system. This would allow an island to be garrisoned and still have air strength.

5) some serious problems with AI production and movement have to be corrected

I don't play this game right now because it is beer and pretzel, without lots of house rules. If the above would be done, I think it would live up to its promise.

Love you too GW, your obituary was greatly exaggerated by everyone glad to see your back or is it you got my back[;)]I am only coming back to see if the supply is fixed, will not play the game to it is fixed. It looks like CM Normandy is about to explode on the war game world, that thankfully will get me off of here for good[&o]

You and GW are my favorite repliers on this forum, I mean that and will always love you two but sometimes Tomokatu I think you are too soft towards the management here, maybe speaking up like I do is not the right answer to get things done, but I have always believed if you dont speak up if you feel something is not quite right then you get what you deserve, as for me "give me liberty or give me death"[;)]
