Is there a 'Focus' button or something like it?

Post by Larsenex »

In Galactic civ 2, when you want to automate most of the ship building, you can hit the focus buttona and tell the auto designer to focus (based on a percentage) what you want it to build. In that game you had 3 types of weapons and 3 countering defenses. You would assign each weapon and a defense a % of it that you wanted in the ship. Weapons would be a 100% as would a defense. So I could assign the builder to put 50% of the hull into beams, 40% into missles and 10% into mass drivers. On the same ship, since I know that the Drengin are focusing on Missles I would put 60% into Missle defence, 20% into Armor (vrs mass drivers) and 20% into shields (Beam defence).

Now, my question is....

Do we have a feature that is somewhat like that? As I mentioned I found the 'Death Ray' superweapon. I want to tell my Automated ships designer to put that sucker in there the first chance it can based on what it needs to install it. i would also like to tell it how much of the ship I want to allocate for a weapon or such.

Do we have mods to help like this? It would be great to just pull up a ship template, and just assign by a % what components you want.

Thanks much!

DW does not have a universal design focus feature like GalCiv2 has.
There is an auto upgrade in DW, but its via ship design, but you have to establish the ship design first, and use default ship class (design) name of the auto upgrade command will ignore that design.

i don't actually understand all the details, so i manually upgrade everything, using ship manes that have codes in them so i know what that class has. Example: f = fusion, LRS = long range scanners, etc.

if I understand you correctly do the following,

open your designs folder and select medium spaceport

select copy as new

change the name of the port to death ray port

add your death ray to the design
add or delete any other components

make sure you get rid of all the red warnings to make the design conform to minimum standards

save the new design

open the ships and bases screen

sort by clicking role

scroll down to find the first use of base - medium spaceport

left-click the  1st port on the list from top to bottom

find the last medium space port on the list  and shift-left click to select it as the last.

all the ports wanted should be highlighted

click retrofit

pull the drop-down menu and select your medium space port -death ray

if you have the money hit retrofit

note the spaceport was used as an example
