Interesting Defense of Bastogne by US

Command Ops: Battles From The Bulge takes the highly acclaimed Airborne Assault engine back to the West Front for the crucial engagements during the Ardennes Offensive. Test your command skills in the fiery crucible of Airborne Assault’s “pausable continuous time” uber-realistic game engine. It's up to you to develop the strategy, issue the orders, set the pace, and try to win the laurels of victory in the cold, shadowy Ardennes.
Command Ops: Highway to the Reich brings us to the setting of one of the most epic and controversial battles of World War II: Operation Market-Garden, covering every major engagement along Hell’s Highway, from the surprise capture of Joe’s Bridge by the Irish Guards a week before the offensive to the final battles on “The Island” south of Arnhem.

Interesting Defense of Bastogne by US

Post by Marshal Villars »

This is an end situation shot of the defense of Bastogne by the US AI. I am the Germans and have a massive KG about to hit the middle of town (just running out of time on the objectve!)...but there are NO US troops between me and the spires of Bastogne. I find this defense to be a bit funny and perhaps there is a tweak one could make in the AI to better adjust in this situation?

I thought the "end situation" map would show that there were indeed units ahead of my German armor and KG just to the NE by E. But there weren't! Just a jumble of units to the south fighting off my secondary attack on the southern outskirts with my paratroopers.

Again it is hard to determine what the Germans are doing from this screen shot. Many of them have Move orders but we don't see where they are moving to. It could be that they are moving back to Bastogne. Moreover, it's hard to see what the Germans know about from this screen shot. I can determine that by loading a saved game into a debug version of the game.

You mean, it's hard to know what the US is doing. Right? I am the Germans and I am fighting against a US AI.

If it is interesting to you, I CAN send several game saves from the last day.

What I can promise you is that I came down the E highway (running east out of Bastogne through Neffe-Magaret) en masse and hammered them with massive forces. They SHOULD know I am coming. LOL. :) This is why I was surprised to see NO American units between my German KGs and the town center at end of game. If I had ONLY been a LITTLE faster. :)

Again, I would really think they SHOULD know I was coming. They encountered massive German formations coming at them down that NE highway for the last two days of the game.
