Tank Armies

Gary Grigsby’s War in the East: The German-Soviet War 1941-1945 is a turn-based World War II strategy game stretching across the entire Eastern Front. Gamers can engage in an epic campaign, including division-sized battles with realistic and historical terrain, weather, orders of battle, logistics and combat results.

The critically and fan-acclaimed Eastern Front mega-game Gary Grigsby’s War in the East just got bigger and better with Gary Grigsby’s War in the East: Don to the Danube! This expansion to the award-winning War in the East comes with a wide array of later war scenarios ranging from short but intense 6 turn bouts like the Battle for Kharkov (1942) to immense 37-turn engagements taking place across multiple nations like Drama on the Danube (Summer 1944 – Spring 1945).

Tank Armies

Post by HHI »

I raised this issue before regarding the absence of Tank Army HQ's and was told they get built. Hmmm. Historically, the following occured.

38th Army redesignated 1st Tank Army, July 1942
28th Army redesignated 4th Tank Army, July 1942
58th Army redesignated 3rd Tank Army, May 1942
5th Tank Army created May 1942

In my game, it is November, 1942 (SU vs. German AI). These armies have not been renamed nor have I seen any option for renaming or creating these Tank Armies. Am I missing something or is this simply not right. In my opinion, the Tank Armies should be created or renamed per historical record. I also think they should receive the same morale bonus that the Shock Armies get.

I realize that all four of these Tank Armies were severly mauled, either in the Kharkov disaster or Operation Blau, but that may or may not occur in any game.

How do I get my Tank Armies?

Tank army HQ's have to be build, they can be build from mid 1942 onwards I believe. There was a bug that caused them to not always be displayed as a unit you could form, but that should be fixed now.

I made a scenario that starts in April 1942 based on the campaign game that starts in June 1942. It's now October 1942 and I have tank armies. I think I have all of those as well as the 38th Army. They just appeared in the game as reinfocements I think. I didn't build them.

I just updated from the Beta to V 1.02. There is no headquarters in the build list, no Tank Army HQ reinforcement, no Tank Army HQ on the board. No Tank Army HQ period. Are we saying my game is different from all the others? Any ideas?

Any benefits of building Tank Army HQ as opposed to assigning tank brigades / corps to regular Army HQ?

The Tank Army HQ gives an admin bonus.  Giving the armor to regular HQs will help the rifle units but hurt the tanks, since they'll have a lot more bad-armor rated generals.

Motorized units attached to the Tank Army/Panzer Corps/Panzer Group/Panzer Army get +1 admin rating for the admin rolls.

But you can assign good armor generals to normal armies.
Anyway, if there's a hardcoded bonus to admin as what Helpless said, then it's good.

What about infantry units attached to Armor HQ's, do they benefit from the admin rating also?

BRILLIANT! You only had to use a quote with a highlight to get your point across, no extra words needed! BRILLIANT! [:D]
I seen the motorized inf, I was just hoping for regular inf, I got plenty of room for some in my Pz. Armees [:D]
