blockade mechanics

Post by Kayoz »

Blockades - I'm a little confused here on how they work.

1. Is there any allowable force retaliation to a blockade? Or is challenging a blockade inevitably going to result in reputation and/or diplomatic penalties?

2. Patrolling fleets do not seem to react to the presence of a blockading fleet. Is this the correct response? Or should there be conflict between blockading and patrolling forces?

3. Blockade running? Is there such a thing? I think the Berlin blockade in 1948-49 is a relevant example. Would the American airlift have resulted in conflict, given the DW diplomatic mechanics? Or it is a form of "undeclared war", in which conflict is accepted by both sides?

4. blockading force - I'm not sure how this works, but given my understanding of DW mechanics, if it were applied to our real-world environment, then North Korea could blockade the whole of continental USA with a single frigate - and the only response available to the USA would be a full declaration of war. Is this correct?

1. Not sure if presently there is a diplomatic or rep hit if you run a blockade that an enemy imposed on you....but again, I'm not sure on this

2) Does the patrolling fleet actually has long enough scanner coverage to see the blockaders?

3) I would like it to be an "undeclared war" but I'm afraid atm it's the other way arround....just like in the case of 1) I'm not relly sure on this

4) This seems to be the case atm afaik

A blockade is declared (by AI) on a planet by planet basis. When I blockade a planet, I must send a military ship to the planet, and then right click on the planet when the blockade image comes up. Sorta looks like a striped saw horse.

Don't confuse this with trade sanctions. Sanctions are a civs refusal to trade anything with the target civ. A blockade is a military action by one or more military ships. Armed civvy ships can't be given orders by the player, so that can't be used to do blockades - or defy a blockade.

The few times i have been the target of a blockade, they seem very willing to lift it for a small fee... so i do. Hope this helps... although I don't know the answers to your specific questions.
