Base selection

Command Ops: Battles From The Bulge takes the highly acclaimed Airborne Assault engine back to the West Front for the crucial engagements during the Ardennes Offensive. Test your command skills in the fiery crucible of Airborne Assault’s “pausable continuous time” uber-realistic game engine. It's up to you to develop the strategy, issue the orders, set the pace, and try to win the laurels of victory in the cold, shadowy Ardennes.
Command Ops: Highway to the Reich brings us to the setting of one of the most epic and controversial battles of World War II: Operation Market-Garden, covering every major engagement along Hell’s Highway, from the surprise capture of Joe’s Bridge by the Irish Guards a week before the offensive to the final battles on “The Island” south of Arnhem.

Base selection

Post by Deathtreader »

Hi,

I think it would be nice if the player could manually switch a unit (or formation for that matter) to a different base unit for supply. I've 3 stug companies from division attached to a regiment and they still insist on drawing their supplies from the divisional base which is way to hell and gone far away from them instead of the panzer regiment's base which is only a few klicks away. The result is them being out of supply and numerous divisional supply convoys being wiped out. The rest of the regiment is flush.........and they won't share with the stugs. Stingy bastards..[:D]

On a related note if I were to put a supply base in a town containing friendly units from 3 different formations (and 3 different supply bases) and that town becomes besieged so that no supplies get thru it would be nice if the surrounded units could actually be resupplied by the base unit down the street instead of those on the other side of the siege lines.

A new feature?? or have I missed something again??

First off. There are good reasons for not allowing units to transfer their supply base willy nilly. I'm not saying it doesn't happen but you need to be aware that an infantry force will have a base unit that is equiped to supply its needs and won't be equiped to support the needs of say an armoured unit. It won't have the necessary fuel trucks, workshops or maintenance personnel.

I agree that for the future we could look at adding a Base type field to each unit and base and then allowing units to transfer bases provided they were of the same type. And yes this would be a new feature.[:)]

Hi,

I've resurrected this one mainly for the Eastfront game. [&o]

Yes the main feature to be developed for the East Front game will be "mounted ops". This will see a realistic modelling of mounted infantry, including motorised infantry, mechanised infantry, soviet cavalry and tank riding infantry. If we get time we may be able to do a few minor changes.

Hi,

I see.........will there still be some form of "doctrinal" modelling as well??

In any event it's still the best engine in town, and I'll happily purchase the game when released.

Rob,

Yes the mounted ops will allow us to implement Soviet Cavalry and Tank Riders. The whole Move and Attack doctrines are going to get a shake up to incorporate this new modelling.

Superb news. Thats one major feature all there. Something that's been asked for since HTTR I believe. Does this mean the trigger system is being left for a later title?

Does that also generally work for german motorcycle and horse mounted reccon units, although there should be less of them in the intended games time period (42/43) as in 1941?
