how am i doing compared to history?

Gary Grigsby’s War in the East: The German-Soviet War 1941-1945 is a turn-based World War II strategy game stretching across the entire Eastern Front. Gamers can engage in an epic campaign, including division-sized battles with realistic and historical terrain, weather, orders of battle, logistics and combat results.

The critically and fan-acclaimed Eastern Front mega-game Gary Grigsby’s War in the East just got bigger and better with Gary Grigsby’s War in the East: Don to the Danube! This expansion to the award-winning War in the East comes with a wide array of later war scenarios ranging from short but intense 6 turn bouts like the Battle for Kharkov (1942) to immense 37-turn engagements taking place across multiple nations like Drama on the Danube (Summer 1944 – Spring 1945).

Post by Phenix »

Hi im playing GC 41-45 ,Its October -42 and i playing Germany and have caused 7,4 million casualties and suffered 1,9 million casulties myself.

Soviet has 5,6 million fighting men and i have 3,4.

How do measure up to history casulty vise and caused casulties?

And do i have realistic chance to win or should i start over?

You are doing better in terms of having more manpower and the Soviets having less than they did historically (Germans would be around 3 million and the Soviets would be a little over 6, IIRC).
All understanding comes after the fact.

Ok but still not enough i recon as the quality of the Soviets increase?
I thought that with more than 7,4 casualties that they would be under 5 mill atleast, i guess not.

you will be glad enough they have under 6 million when the winter hits[:D] and you should hold up better as they will not have the hordes to throw at you.
You have the ability to arouse various emotions in me: please select carefully.

im at turn 71 now and im already shivering in my boots from what i see they fielding, row after row, i will never break them, just a question if i can hang on to 45, very doubtful.
To have chance to that i think i would had to cause atleast a million more casualties.
If these figures are close to history, then how in heavens did they think they could win :-)

Well, IIRC, they raised another 29 million on top of what they started with.

Phenix, they thought they would win in a quick blitzkrieg. Hitler thought that Russia was a stack of cards ready to topple over. (I'm paraphrasing here.) I think they came pretty close to winning, Stalin tried secretly to make a peace deal early in the war, before the first Russian winter.

"A colossus on feet of clay" were, I think, the words Hitler used.
