Ships and Mine Fields

Post by pad152 »

With version 1.11, I noticed that my own ships no longer go around my own mine fields. In the 1.0 my ships would go around mined hexes, I've seen even enemy ships go around know mine fields. Now I have to micromanage my own ships to go around mine fields.

Why, my own ships know the paths around my mine fields.

Not enjoying the new mine rules:(

I'm running 1.11 and I've noticed that my naval forces will change their path around a friendly mine hex. Perhaps it has to do with the mine hex being in shallow water or not. My mines have only been in shallow water. Or perhaps there is an algorithim which determines whether or not an alternate path really warrants a path change.

Was the minefield established after the TF chose its route? You might want to reissue destinations for any of your TFs near newly established minefields.

Question: Pappy & bradfordkay

Are you playing a saved game from a Pre-Patch version?

Because it seems to work differently when you start a new game!

My game was new with v1.10, but not with v1.11. I've yet to have any ships hit my own minefields, but then I haven't been plainc offensive minefields in locations where they get in the way of too many ships. I have noticed that my damaged subs are avoiding the minefields established north and west of Tulagi (my forwardmost repair facility - destination of many a sinking ship).

Sad but True, if you start a new game with v 1.11 your own ships will no longer go around your own mine fields. This sucks:( !!!

you can always set a destination empty hex that takes a path away from the minefield first, then when the TF reaches that area, you set to true destination.
Last time I checked, the forums were messed up. ;)

Waypoint workaround

Post by Scouters »

You can effectively create a waypoint this way:

1. Set the TF to "retirement allowed"

2. Set the TF's home base to the final destination (must be a base)

3. Set the waypoint location at the TF's current destination

Now the TF will move to the waypoint and then automatically "retire" to the real destination. The drawbacks are that the final destination has to be a base and you can't use the "patrol" option.

Hi Guys
useing 1.11, was laying a minefield around my home base about 3 hexes away in shallow water, and dang if my DM didn't run over a mine himself, limped back to base, 50/50 and has been sitting in port ever since (right around 10 damage now, but haven't been seeing any subs, so he is sitting)

the other side of the island has a nice belt across it, and while my ships sail though it, have not had any trouble with it, if they had to sail around the field, it would add at least 2 days to the trip

Mine TF's

Post by pad152 »

What happens if you create a TF with one Mine Layer (DL) and one Mine Sweeper (DMS, MWS) to lay mines?

Will the Mine Sweeper clear the mines being layed, or just provide a safe path for the mine layer?

Hi Pad
well the TF has to be set different to have them work, to lay mines you want to be able to retire, to sweep you want to patrol ? (at least with mine TF) not sure what happens with a totally mixed force

Ships in a minelaying TF will SWEEP mines if the TF is set to Patrol/Do Not Retire or they will LAY mines if the TF is set to Retirement Allowed.

Do SWEEPERS have to originate in Noumea/Truk as MLs do, or can they start from a forward base to perform their mission?
