Idiot Question Number 6 - Which Unit to build

Post by matt.buttsworth »

I have to decide whether to build infantry divisions, cavalry divisions or armored brigades.
How can I check how much spare infantry, horses or tanks I have so I know which of the newly created units will rapidly grow to combat strength?

Thanks

Well you are playin the Soviets

You should refer to the production screen

Tanks are produced by factories, so you can see how large your inventory is.

Infantry, cavalry and the vast majority is produced by armament points

With an on demand production system

Build what you need now as they take months to train up their experience to their morale level

Motorized formations corps etc should be built from existing tanks, mech etc

You can only use so many as they are a vehicle hog

These units require 2000+ vehicles

One thing I will say make sure all spearhead troops are battle trained a.s.a.p

99 Morale troops enter enemy territory/pending control territory alot easier and for less MP's than a rookie formation

Mathew, I know if you are in the "Form" screen, and looking at all of the available units you CAN build, you can then click on the TOE button and it will show you how much of a certain element that unit needs, and you can see how much is available in the Pool.  I was looking at an Arty element, and I saw it needed 24 122 mm guns, and 12 152 mm guns, and in my pool I had 23 of the 122mm, but nothing else.

SO I could have build it and gotten the 23 guns, I assume, on the next turn.

However, I also would like to know if there's a better way to check that.

Matthew, what is the date of your game?

You pay x4 if it is before November of 41, also any losses before 1st December of 41 will be automatically replaced as the unit shows up in the reinforcement queue some weeks later.

Building units (as in combat units) is only likely something you will have to do in 1942+.  To replace losses and for special purposes.

The production system is demand base for anything but air frames and afvs.  So if you ask for 20 guns it will build the 20 guns if it can based on the amount of supplies and such available, I don't know all the details.  In terms of which of a Rifle Division, a Cavalry Division or a Tank Bde you can fill out faster I would suggest you look at the TOE of the unit.  Open a few existing units and see what their TOE state is, that will tell you a lot about the current situation as far as your armaments industry is concerned.

Depending on your losses, the time period of the game, how many factories you have damaged etc the answer is going to be different.  A 42a Tank Bde has virtually nothing in it...so it fills out in a week.  A Cavalry "division" is barely a brigade sized force so it also fills out fast.  A rifle division probably fills out fast for some of its TOE and glacially slowly for others (anti-tank guns are seemingly always in short supply for me).
