Centralized location for help resources

Post by Hanzberger »

Where is it? I know there was a wiki started, but I can't find it. We need a place where ppl can post there help(s), spreadsheets, whatever someone else may find useful so they (me) can solve problems. Don't get me wrong, I think this is the best game community ever, just would be nice to have some paper stuff on my desk so it looks like I know what I am doing. [:D]

A wiki was started, but went down due to problems with the server. The person who still has the back-up said he'd bring it online himself, but we haven't been able to reach him for some time. He also hasn't logged into the forums in a while. If anyone wants to put up a new one I'd help filling it out again, but I wouldn't know how to put up a wiki or how to host it.

A wiki is very simple to set up (if you know how) its a few minutes job. The time is for the Wiki to be filled in and used. I agree that a Wiki would be a really good thing to have in operation. Happy to aid in the setting up, if people want one.

Plenty of free wiki sites to choose from. Not sure why someone doesn't take the bit between their teeth & get the ball rolling. Willing to contribute too but Tracker and the video's do take up a bit of my time

There are a number of options:
. Set up a wiki on my webserver, which already hosts some scenario files--I'm a bit leery of this because that webserver is used for security research.
. Set up a wiki at wikia--my recommendation
. Set up a wiki on your own webserver.

I've set one up over at Wikia, it does turn out to be quite easy.
http://witp-ae.wikia.com/wiki/War_in_the_Pacific:_Admiral's_Edition_Wiki

Now the question is how to organize it. It should be organized properly or else it's going to become a complete mess with the hundreds of topics we could add.

You might want some user control otherwise it will be hacked or become someone's dumping place.

[edit] Might also contact the old wiki and see if you can get their material

It seems I can only protect individual pages, so I protected the main page only so I can try to keep it a bit organized. If there are problems I'll protect the other pages as well. Anyone who wants administrator rights, just try contact me through wikia and let me know who you are on this forum.

Edit: I'm not sure who to contact for a back-up of the old wiki. Historiker has one, but can't be reached and I wouldn't know how to contact the hosts of the old wiki.

I have some 'sites' I have collected if you want to put them up on the site, but it would be nice to have ppl put there 'helps' such as spreadsheets and such.

http://www.historylink101.com/1/world_war_II/maps_2.htm

http://www.lib.utexas.edu/maps/historic ... y_ww2.html

http://www.combinedfleet.com/

http://wwiiarchives.net/

I hope this idea doesn't fall apart, I think it would help everyone espcially those just picking up the game or wanting to pick up the game.

With that you should add Hyperwar at http://www.ibiblio.org/hyperwar/

So much WitP and so little time to play.... :-(

There was a Thread where a large amount of very useful information was collected ... perhaps adding these in in good order would be heplful ...
