WITE Install problems

All -

I purchased WITE and installed it on my PC - everything works fine.
I went to install it on my laptop and when I start the game it says the serial number is bad.
I checked the serial number multiple times and I am using the same serial number.
The message says to contact Matrix for support.

Unless I am having a brainfart and WITE is restricted to one install (I don't think it is but please let me know!!!), I can't figure out what is wrong.

Any suggestions would be appreciated!

What OS you have on your PC and on your laptop?

Had that issue before with other games becasue Vista sucks.

However I can't get this fixed.

AFAIK the game installer just checks wether the serial is OK (i.e. proper number and not just some random set of numbers) - also, AFAIK, it doesn't go on-line and calls home for serial number confirmation!

Thus this must be some kind of local Vista issue on your laptop... sorry... [:(]


But please try this though!

Try running installer with "Run As Administrator" because in order to enter data into Registry you have to have certain rights (and serial number is entered into Windows Registry...

On the quick start selector, open it up and set to RUN AS ADMINISTRATOR, that will solve it

Tried to run as administrator multiple times with no success.
Had difficulty uninstalling but was finally able to manage it.
Turned off the UAC completely and reinstalled.
Everything works fine now.

Glad that you were able to sort this through (although I don't understand why it didn't run with "Run as Administrator" - I do it all the time since I have many installs on may machines during WitE ALPHA-BETA - WinXP, Vista, Win7 in both 32 and 64 bit flavors)...
