Soviet Airbase Names... Again

Post by G Felzien »

Many many names. Is there any practical reason not to place whatever air groups you want on them?

I place the aircraft at a named base so I can find them easier thats why I place them as described in the manual

fighters at IAD,bombers at BAD etc

If you use the FREE FROM AP COST aviation commitment move mechanism

then you inevitably have the aircraft placed at the historically correct named base anyway

The computer will attempt to use certain air unit types based at certain base types for priority on flying supplies to partisans; that's the main way the base type is important.

I am a bit concerned that i only seem to have BAD airbases, didn't the soviets have any GOOD ones? [;)]
Or perhaps a real BADASS airbase! [:D]

It really doesn't matter, except for the VVS Air Bases. This is where your transport squadrons automatically supply Partisans during the night phases.

So the reason I pay some attention is so that I do nto have open up the airbase everytime to see what's there.

I generally:

1. Place fighters in the IAD bases - and set the range to < 20
2. Place long range aircraft - range > 30 - in the long range command bases
3. Everything else in the BAD bases i.e ranges < 40
4. Except VVS get the night fighters/bombers and short range U2 supply craft.

This way there is some orgaization which keeps me from having to open up each base to examine it.

Interesting stuff. So two things really, VVS for bombers and night fighters to ensure partisan resupply and using the Free From AP Costs mechanism.

I'll read up on the latter one. In fact I better read up on all Soviet specific stuff since I started a Sov side PBEM and I have never played them before! [X(]
