Winter on the Eastern Front! Film

Gary Grigsby’s War in the East: The German-Soviet War 1941-1945 is a turn-based World War II strategy game stretching across the entire Eastern Front. Gamers can engage in an epic campaign, including division-sized battles with realistic and historical terrain, weather, orders of battle, logistics and combat results.

The critically and fan-acclaimed Eastern Front mega-game Gary Grigsby’s War in the East just got bigger and better with Gary Grigsby’s War in the East: Don to the Danube! This expansion to the award-winning War in the East comes with a wide array of later war scenarios ranging from short but intense 6 turn bouts like the Battle for Kharkov (1942) to immense 37-turn engagements taking place across multiple nations like Drama on the Danube (Summer 1944 – Spring 1945).

There are numerous kinds of visual propaganda, but the propaganda for home use tends to be of the "show a few happy things, don't show the rest"/"don't lie about the things you show, but don't tell anything about the rest" or "keep telling a lie until it becomes the truth" type.

In this case, I don't doubt that Christmas in Lappland (mostly stationary front in 1942, staring contest and firing phosphor rounds at the enemy in the summer) or the Caucasus mountain tops (AG A was still hanging around in the Caucasus as Wintergewitter had not failed yet by the time the footage was taken, the Gebirgsjaeger had also been fairly stationary for a prolonged period) could've been like that. What they don't show is Christmas in Stalingrad.

Love those German Newsreels. The contrast between the efficency and backwardness of the German war machine is striking though I'm sure unintentional. The clip were they are reeling in a truck with rope to try and lure allied fighters into a flak trap in one of the 44 clips is hilarious. If I seen that I dont think it would have raised my morale.[:D]

When they fell of the sled at the outset, I think that basically summed up the German attack in Russia - off to a grand start, followed by a collapse in the snow!

I was also struck by the way that TV news has gone 180 degrees since then - from only reporting the positives bits to only reporting the negative bits. Was there a time in the middle when we got the whole story? Maybe for 6 months around 1960?

This rather a man point of view of the war. I don't understand german's comment, but this movie is giving a filling of vatness.
