Seth vs. Easy8
Okay, we're coming into the action a bit late here. I am the Germans, he the Canadians in 1944. It's a meeting engagement, and my starting points were 6200. On my first turn, I advance after a massive Nebelwerfer barrage. I cause a few infantry casualties. On turn 2, he responds with lots of mortars. Must be about 20 of them. My mortars are also active. I can't see anything, but I'm having great fun blowing up the map. He lays into my supposed nebelwerfer positions with 8in batteries, and some are apparently free to go after my 81mm mortars. The mortars suffer a lot more than the nebelwefers. Some of my armor has been spotted, but all I knowabout his forces is from "x retreating" messages. I think he must have a lot of infantry, because he's laid smoke in front of my armor when he spots it. One thing I notice is that when there's a swamp next to a hill, it apparenly extends under the hill, and can magically make things get stuck in mud on top of the hill. It's now his second turn.

Not much to say that Seth didn't say.
I countered his nebelwerfer barrage with everything I could throw at them.
Spotted at least a platoon of Sturmtigers on the ridge in the center of the map and a lone Kingtiger on the east-west road near the south edge.

I have finally seen the enemy! Some of my troops creep forth from the smoke, expecting imminent messages about assaults at 75%, but find only a Sherman by his rear set of VH's (about 20 hexes off). Some other foot troops have revealed their location by popping smoke. The poor northern Tiger is again the subject of a vicious 8" bombardment, and all troops are warned to stay well away. Luckily, this takes the heat off my mortars long enough for me to try to get them somewhere safe. Two squads are down to one man already. My one non-panicked mortar rains bombs on what is undoubtedly empty space. One note here: Easy forgot to turn off rarity when he set the battle up, so I am stuck without Pz. IIIL's, Stug F's, etc. I am making do largely with Tiger II's and Sturmtigers. AHahahahahahaha! I'm hoping Canadian Wolverines have a rarity of three. I believe the smoke was indeed an attempt to make me rush forward, but for the first time ever, I am not rash and stupid. Very slowly I am consolidating. Besides, I have got all but one set of VH's claimed or behind my lines.

Meanwhile, behind Canadian lines....
"What do you suppose all that noise is aboot, McKenzie?" "Must be a fight, but we're safe back here, eh? Got any smokes?"

Isn't rarity a funny thing? There were three models of Pz. IV that I couldn't even buy, so I just said screw it, and bought the most expensive stuff. Anyway, this turn my Tigers on the N/Central hill shoot up a rifle section, which runs. Advancing infantry on the southern central sector spot another section, so I get to try out my Sturmtigers. BOOOM! They run away too. My glorious commandos take out a three inch mortar. The squad has two kills, and no damage. I don't mean to gloat, but generally my commandos appear within sight of 2 or three AAMG's and a squad or two, and are lucky to kill a few men before they go down in a hideous blaze of wasted points.

Hmm, the map is a medium temperate zone. I already closed my turn, so maybe Mr. 8 will draw a better picture. Anyway, I have lots of empty space and some hills in my rear, he has forest and rough ground. In the center, there is a hill to the north, then further south another with a swamp in front, and then to the south there is a ridge with woods to his side. By the way, when I say Tiger, I mean Tiger II. Sorry I don't have any way to make shots.
Now for my report:
Does Easy8 have any idea how much those Tigers cost? You can't treat them like that! They need special care. In the north, everyone just stands around in a daze, and gets shelled again at the end of the turn. One infantry squad is demolished. In the Center, the Tigers shoot up an infantry sqd at long range. The Sturmtigers kill a Commando Sqd to the south, along the road through the woods that the southern Tigers are coming through. I then do some direct fire, and kill three men to the rear by blasting the adjacent hex. My southern Tigers advance into the woods and supress one commando sqd, (which is killed by supporting SS) and chase off another. In the rear, my second commando sqd pops up in the middle of a bunch of stuff, kills a Sherman, and is then annihilated by another Sherman, the squad they were standing on, and a .30 cal MG. That's more what I expect from these clowns, but I keep buying them. My remaining mortars target his suspected artillery locations.

Seth gave a good description of the map. East - west roads near top and bottom, with a small stream running east-west right down the middle.
Vis 20, clear weather, 20 turns
Canadian commandos assault a Tiger near the north road, but are driven off by 7.92 mg fire. A Sherman V peeks over a ridge and flattens the Kubelwagen FO calling in mortar fire. Shermans and Achillies snipe at enemy Tigers to no effect.
More 8' HE raining down in a vain attempt to slow down his Tigers, but I am disrupting some infantry squads behind the ridge in the north-central sector.
Very tense game so far, really enjoying it

So on my turn, my commandos revert to form. I immobilize an Achilles, and shoot up a rifle sec, but I am surrounded. In the North, the same story. Every stands around like drooling morons, waiting to be shelled. They are. They die. One tank engages an infantry sqd. In the center, I advance but find no targets for the Tigers. I can see a lot of armor, but not with anything that can engage it. My Sturmtigers blow up a lot of infantry, most of it never seen by me. These are fun vehicles. The infantry get murderously shelled. In the South, my Tigers advance through the woods and kill some more commandos. The supporting infantry are generally useless and cowardly. My Nebelwerfers come back at the end of the turn. Their efforts in the center are rewarded with lots of casualties, but the attemp to target his mortars only produces 2-3 dead. Hopefully I panicked one or two.

His Tigers continue to advance and I continue to look for places to hide:D
An assault team manages to sneak up on a Sturm Tiger and destroy it.
My Sherman V and M10 Achilles crews take potshots at King and Sturm Tigers, but only manage to scrape paint off with their APCR. Two Sherman V's and an M-10 unlucky enough to get caught in the open are blasted into scrap metal.
To paraphrase M4 Jess, I hope he runs out of Tigers before I run out of M-10's:D

This guy is the lord of smoke. I spent more time watching smoke pop than being shot at. Anyway, I can hardly see anything this turn. In the north, nothing. In the center, I utterly fail to kill a crew, despite shooting at it with everything in range. There is a big forest around his set of VHs, and a small hill on the top and bottom. I have a Sturmtiger on the bottom hill. After a Tiger kills the Achilles right in front of it, it fires at the crew. The crew is unharmed, but an unseen MG sqd is destroyed, and two other units pull back. Infantry come up, and drive off an MG team. In the south, the road through the woods is clear, after the death of another commando sqd. A scout team is spotted, as well as a Sheman hiding behind the next grove. His artillery doesn't kill anyone for the first time. My nebelwerfers fire off another round, and kill a squad in the woods. Hopefully I won't lose all my armor to assaults, but there's almost nowhere back here I can see more than 5 hexes.

Lost at least 5 Sherman V's and Achilles this turn and destroyed a Panther G and a Sturm Tiger. Guess this validates the 5 Shermans to kill 1 Tiger maxim.
In other action we popped an ammo truck and drove som infantry back.
My 8" batteries are out of touch this round and my mortars continue to lay smoke to try and offset his long range advantage.

A pretty good turn, considering I'm having to assault his position. My infantry are mostly just there for him to kill, but I do cause minor casualties to his troops. On the armor front, I kill one Achilles in the North, two in the center, and one in the south. Some Panthers rush forward at the bottom of the map, and disperse some infantry. I have a Tiger and a useless Sturmtiger with no gun immobilized. My rocket attack is a big success again, but a few rounds land short amongst my loser infantry.

I'm just trying to hang on and take as many Huns down with me as I can.
Ooops!
Power went down during post turn arty bombardment so will have to replay turn.
My infantry continues to fall back from the Tigers' onslaught. I manage to kill some infantrymen and the damaged Sturmtiger near the center of the map.

Alright. I had a busy weekend, but I just sent in a turn. In the north, he's still hanging on. All northern forces pivot to meet his infantry. I do take out an MMG, and inflict random casualties, but he hits me with 8" at the end of the turn. In the center, I'm a bit afraid of going into the woods. I do send in some scouts, who win a dustup with an assault team and an MMG, but I see more men and at least 1 Achilles. His artillery wipes out one more squad, and hurts some others. In the south, things are going very well. I lose a Panther and a Kubelwagen, but I kill about 7 squads and some MMGs. The FlakPz IV is good for something at last! I spot another Achilles coming up the east-west road. My artillery does absolutely nothing.

This fight has broken down into three seperate battles.
In the north, my infantry begins sweeping his infantry off of the hill overlooking the center. I knock out an MG42 and several infantry squads and push the remainder back. Unfortunately, a platoon of King Tigers from the center is headed their way to settle their hash.
In the center, my infantry are desperately trying to contain his breakthroughs. I kill two infantry squads, destroy a King Tiger by infantry assault, and nail a Brumbaur with a frontal hit from a Piat. Another infantry assault immobilizes a Skdfz 7/11, and a M10 Achilles moves in and finishes it off.
In the south, an infantry assault kills another King Tiger.
All along the line, we watch helplessly as Sherman V's and Achilles bounce apcr shots off of the Tigers, usually followed by a single 88mm shell that kills the ambusher. Infantry squads are falling back in panic after firing Piats at point blank range and barely denting their armor. In desperation we call 8" howitzer fire 100 yds from our lines, but watch in frustration as we kill as many of our own as the enemy.
