Expansion idea

Command Ops: Battles From The Bulge takes the highly acclaimed Airborne Assault engine back to the West Front for the crucial engagements during the Ardennes Offensive. Test your command skills in the fiery crucible of Airborne Assault’s “pausable continuous time” uber-realistic game engine. It's up to you to develop the strategy, issue the orders, set the pace, and try to win the laurels of victory in the cold, shadowy Ardennes.
Command Ops: Highway to the Reich brings us to the setting of one of the most epic and controversial battles of World War II: Operation Market-Garden, covering every major engagement along Hell’s Highway, from the surprise capture of Joe’s Bridge by the Irish Guards a week before the offensive to the final battles on “The Island” south of Arnhem.

Expansion idea

Post by garymiboy »

Hi, i did mention in an earlier post about doing a stalingrad expansion using the command ops engine. but as someone pointed out its more squad based and i now realise it would probably need city area maps.only one i know that does anything like that is John Tillers red victory game.
so, how about doing an assault on berlin..ie the battles through germany etc leading up to berlin?
just bouncing a few ideas about :)
this is such a good game and im really looking forward to more from this game engine !![:)]

Maybe the latter as the game seems to best model maneuver units over territory with multiple avenues of approach available to them.

So how about "Race to the Rhine" where US and Soviet units fight Germans while competing on their relative progress?

The winner could be ascertained by how much territory and Axis units it destroyed after the US and Russian forces meet.

A race is always fun. However, this would rrequire us to support more than two sides or more than one command per side. This too is on the list of features we are considering for a military version.

It would probably be the biggest challenge for the AA engine, esp. if there is an option to play the Germans against 2 AI commands!

Then again, the human player could command both Allied forces, but then he would be competing against himself.

Personally, I'm hoping for this engine to model some desert warfare scenarios a la Rommel vs. Monty.

Well, a way the Berlin issue could be resolved is fetching 2 expansions out?.. the one from the west..the other from the east [battles through ukraine poland latvia etc.].theres plenty of meat for lots of historical battles on both fronts.anf i for one wouldnt have any problem buying both [:)]
also theres the budapest area battles..and the list goes on. but although there are a lot of areas.it would need to be kept to the very high quality that it is now.
and i think with the ideas already kicked about on here.its a testament to the flexability of this game engine !!!

There is an old boardgame called Battle for Germany that had an interesting way of handling it. One player is the Wallies, and one player is the Soviets. There is a line dividing the map between east and west. The Wallies control the German forces to the east of the line, and the Soviet player controls the Germans to the west of it.

So basically each player tries to race the other to the Rhine while using German forces in his opponent's AO to delay him.

Using the Panter AA engine, I assume that set-up would only require one AI controlling two commands.

As Laugh-In's Arte Johnson used to say, "Verrrrry interesting!"
