A few questions

Post by torontorock »

Hello all. I am a Galciv2 player who has just recently heard of distant worlds and was thinking of picking it up. I've heard good things and was wondering about a few things so I figured I'd ask the regulars.

1-Victory conditions: Can you win without destroying everything with your military. Galciv had many ways to win which I enjoyed (Diplomatic voctory, research victory ect.).

2-Editors: Can you make your own tech trees or adjust current ones with the editor. Can you adjust values for components and weapons and can you create whole new ones?

3-Renaming stuff: Can you rename ships/planets. This is cheesy but I always enjoyed "personalizing" my empire that way.

4-tactical ground battles: I've heard distant worlds have ground armies. Are there tactical ground battles when you invade planets?

5-Diplomacy: Is there a deep diplomacy system?

6-Whats the maximum number of opponents you can play against and can you create your own empires with the editor perhaps?

Thanks for any replies. Have a good day all :)

welcome to the game and community torontorock. Let's see

1. yes, it has even more ways than Galciv as well as sandbox mode, these become the standard for every 4x game now

2. definitly more versatile editor than Galciv but I may be wrong here, I got to the Galkciv editors after the DW one and they didn't seem quite as versatile.

3. Yes

4. No, less options here than in Galciv...actually you land them and watch the ground battle from orbit

5. Not as deep as Galciv but DW is still young and getting there, it's one of the most requested features for the future patches / expansions

6. As many as you want afaik, 20+ for certain...more than in Galciv
Yes, you can create them and you also have minor races. As opposed to Galciv these can themselves become empires...if you let them [:)]

There is a lot more to say but I hope you'll find it out. We're also here if needed.
Have fun.

No demo, but there are I think six demo vids on youtube. Starting with this one, the voice is actually Elliot (the developer)
