Opart.ini Explanations
Dear Guys,
I don't find an explanation of each line and possible parameters for the Opart.ini file. What does each line change, what are the possible changes for each line, and how does one change them?
Thanks,
Mike

RE: Opart.ini Explanations
Most of it explains itself, e.g. the handicap for Elmer, screen resolution, setting for your mousewheel, your settings if you use the new/default mouse clicks to select and move a unit/formation/stack etc.
Cheat Prevention
There is now a PORandomSeed in the INI file. If set to 0 (default) it will always use the next randon number. If set to -1, it will always use the random number stored in the save file. If set to a number it will use that number. PBEM games are always treated as -1. This means that reloads of a PBL PBEM game will produce the same results. This also means that I will be able to reproduce bug reports.
Hope that shed some light on it...

OK, I'll get specific.
What are Maxscreen X and Y? What are the options?
What is allformationline and oneformationline?
What is jpegquality?
movies?
allcropcircle?
P0 to P4?
uberdude?
toawlog?
polog?
unitpolog?
oldsound?
nodelay?
Guess it's not so self explanatory for some of us?
Thanks,
Mike

nodelay – Useful for debugging scenarios in computer vs. computer play mode, this option turns off many of the small timer controlled delays and animations in the game. The effect is most noticeable on faster machines.
noupdate - Useful for debugging scenarios in computer vs. computer play mode, this option turns off many of the screen updates in the game. The effect is most noticeable on slower machines. This option should not be used when playing the game, as some of the updates are necessary for normal play purposes. A combination of nodelay and noupdate can speed computer vs. computer scenario test dramatically.
nosound – Turn off all sound.
norandom – Turns off system time based initialization of the random number generator used in TOAW.
polog – Turns on the programmed opponent logging feature. This will generate a po_log.txt file in your game directory. The log file is a detailed record of programmed opponent decision making during a game.
toawlog – Turns on the general game logging feature. This will generate a toaw_log.txt file in your game directory. The log file is a detailed record of many game management functions, including loading and unloading of resources and combat resolution.
nointro – Turns the introductory cinematic off.
uberdude – Increases the amount of feedback from the event engine and other game functions for debug purposes. Many event engine actions that leave no trace in normal mode will fully document themselves in the news report if you use the uberdude switch. This can be used during normal play, but is really intended for scenario designer use. It has a tendency to clutter the news report and certain graphics areas with information that isn’t needed during normal play.
The rest are basically flag for the settings in the game options - see attached screenshot - they're explained in the what's new .doc / .pdf.

Dear Guys,
I've tried to set the opart.ini to start the game with a different game resolution. I set screenx and screeny to different monitor resolutions, but it has no effect.
I do not know what to set MaxscreenX and MaxscreenY to. I tried changing from 0 to 1 and the game would not fill the outer boarder.
How do I set these parameters?
Thanks,
Mike

Let me guess.. O/S = Vista? I have a 19" screen, 1400x900 using a netbook. My Opart3.ini =ORIGINAL: mamnich

Now note, that the other settings are for debugging, e.g. they're related to PO/Elmer. P0...P4 Path, atc.
Try out the screen resolutions; both settings. It would help if you could let us now which O/S you're using. Another option is; rename your Opart3.ini and start the game; that should create a new/default .ini.

Dear Oberst,
I'm running win XP.
Why are there two sets of screen res. lines: Maxscreen and Screen?
I notice you have two lines almost the same:
AllFormationlines=Y
AllFormationliness=N this one has an extra last s
What do these do?
Thanks,
Mike

The pre-progammes lines/way/route the PO will take with its units. show all, shows all formation's routes, show one, just the unit that you have clicked on.
Why there's -ss, that only the developer notes.
Just try what I advised about the screen resolution; you want the game to work and not ananlysing every bit of code, uh?

RE: Opart.ini Explanations
Dear Oberst,
I've tried setting MaxscreenX and MaxscreenY to various screen resolutions;
and at the same time setting ScreenX and ScreenY to the same values, like in your example. I've set Changescreenresolution=N like you have also; have also tried setting it to =Y. In all changes I get no differing results in screen resolution. The What's New says one is supposed to be able to set the screen resolution of the game to be different than your current desktop setting. I can't get this to work.
Does this not work with winXP?
How do I get it to work? My screen resolution is 1680x1050, and its too small. I need the game to start in 1280x768 or such.
Should I refer this to a support thread?
Thanks,
Mike

Mike,
If your running under the 'patch' (202), you should be able to change to anything you wish.......w/o it (running under 201) you should be able to at least get 8oo x 1024.
I'll let the Oberst explain the 'how to's' to ya......

RE: Opart.ini Explanations
if you change something in the ini file you need to restart TOAW to have the change become effective because TOAW only reads it when it starts up. Hope this is helpful.

Dear Guys,
If I set Screen resolution to anything and open the game, it doesn' change the game resolution.
Does Changescreenresolution= need to be Y?
Do I need to give MaxscreenX and Y values other than =0?
Mike

RE: Opart.ini Explanations
Mike,
ChangeScreenResolution=Y is essential, I forgot telling you in my 1st PM. That flags/triggers the game to change from your XP display setting to the setting of the game. No need for me, as both settings are set to 1440x900. Please let us always know what happened after enabling our suggestions. It's hard to give advice without knowing what the result was.
