Air Bugs and Errata

Post by Bronze »

I won't list prior ones that I've seen, some of which have been fixed and others (esp. Stuka fragility and runway bombing) I am hoping will be fixed in 1.04. Note that Joel did not mention air fixes in his recent post involving 1.04........

1. When I have my FBs in bomber mode (Me110Es that I am aware of), they are listed as available for supply runs. Can they really (or did they) deliver fuel?

2. In January (or maybe late December '41) I get a Bf110F-4a unit - these planes don't become available until February.

3. The moral loss for FBs trained as fighters but used as bombers is far, far greater than that of those used as fighters despite flying fewer missions in the opening moves of the GC. They will go down to the teens in 1-2 turns despite stating at 65+ where there fighter mode peers barely (if at all) drop at all.

4. Slovenian tactical bombers have "recon" in their name.

5. When I auto recon as Germany I get some (adequate) escorted flights the first time I hit the AI button. However, upon hitting the button the second time I get little to none (pre-blizzard). With the following ground support missions I get fighter escort again (and I am not near hurting for available fighters).

6. I am not finding in the manual the dynamics for airplanes going into reserve status and all the triggers. How does one determine if an airbase can support more planes?

7. And for that matter, what factors are involved in planes getting reinforced in the national reserve? Sometimes they get 10+/turn with +100 in the pool yet my Ju86Ks (strength in the low 20s) sit turn after turn without getting replacements despite 90+ in the pool.

Thank you for your time and help towards a great game.

Not official here, but to the best of my knowledge...

They are flying escort for the missions, and trust me, you want some escorts protecting those precious Ju-52s.

There seems to be some morale related bug for tac bombers, and FBs operating as tac bombers. I personally think that it might have something to do with them getting shot at by flak, and taking the morale hit for "losing" a battle. However, this is just conjecture on my part.

Do you have Recon Escort set to "On" in the Air Settings panel?

The air bases can have a max of 9 air units assigned to them. Not sure what you mean by reserve, whether reserve airframes within an air unit, or the National Reserve. If any miles have been flown by an air unit, then it can't be assigned to the National Reserve. You'll need to send them there before they start flying missions, or you move the air base, which causes some incrementing of the "miles flown" for its air units.

Not sure about your other questions, but maybe someone else will chime in shortly...

- Assumed that they would be doing bomber only stuff as this is what I have my FBs listed as.

- Sounds good - but to a more limited extent - they're not really (or shouldn't be) losing in the early turns.

- Yes, they are escorted the first round of AI recon flights and all others. Will they fly escort missions if this isn't checked - haven't observed this.

- Guess I didn't word that one well: I was referring to the "RESERVE" status vs. "DAMAGED" vs. "READY" when you click on the actual unit in an airbase - I am aware that an airbase can hold 9 units, it is the variance of numbers in "RESERVE" that I can find no reference to - it seems the more units I have at an airbase, the more planes I have in "RESERVE" - I would like to be able to tell if (and really even how much) I can add another unit to an airbase without a significant number of the airbases planes going into "RESERVE".

Oops...missed the bolded part, when I answered before. Sorry. Do a test. Deselect everyone else except the FBs on Bomber mode, and see if anything gets delivered.

Theoretically every TR/LB/TacB/FB with load >2000 can fly supply missions.
2. In January (or maybe late December '41) I get a Bf110F-4a unit - these planes don't become available until February.

It is a question for Trey. He may know it better.

Yes, morale reduction will be reviewed/fixed.
5. When I auto recon as Germany I get some (adequate) escorted flights the first time I hit the AI button. However, upon hitting the button the second time I get little to none (pre-blizzard). With the following ground support missions I get fighter escort again (and I am not near hurting for available fighters).

Need to check, but iirc, "second" rounds of AI recon reducing the requirements for the both recon and escort flights.
6. I am not finding in the manual the dynamics for airplanes going into reserve status and all the triggers. How does one determine if an airbase can support more planes?

Depends what you mean by support. Hard limit is 9 groups per air base. But for the repair and mission support the amount of support also matter. It is pretty much as for WITP - 1 ready support squad for each plane. 250 support squad can support unlimited amount of aircraft.
7. And for that matter, what factors are involved in planes getting reinforced in the national reserve? Sometimes they get 10+/turn with +100 in the pool yet my Ju86Ks (strength in the low 20s) sit turn after turn without getting replacements despite 90+ in the pool.

Iirc, low pools (<100) make replacements very slow. It also depends on amount of air groups equipped with this type and production rates.

Thank you for your answers, especially for support squads/1 plane.

This one feels really strange, is there a reason for it, historical or other? War equipment should be in service, not in a pool!
It's not comparable to a supply sergant hoarding Hershey bars...

Agreed, 100+ seems like to high of a number.
