Hungarians... on Turn 3

Gary Grigsby’s War in the East: The German-Soviet War 1941-1945 is a turn-based World War II strategy game stretching across the entire Eastern Front. Gamers can engage in an epic campaign, including division-sized battles with realistic and historical terrain, weather, orders of battle, logistics and combat results.

The critically and fan-acclaimed Eastern Front mega-game Gary Grigsby’s War in the East just got bigger and better with Gary Grigsby’s War in the East: Don to the Danube! This expansion to the award-winning War in the East comes with a wide array of later war scenarios ranging from short but intense 6 turn bouts like the Battle for Kharkov (1942) to immense 37-turn engagements taking place across multiple nations like Drama on the Danube (Summer 1944 – Spring 1945).

Hungarians... on Turn 3

Post by *Lava* »

So... I'm off on my first GC game as Axiz vs the AI on Challenging. I'm trying something different just for the experience and overall things aren't going the greatest.

And then just before I click on the "End Turn" button... I get a surprise:

You railed them there, I presume?

The AI probably captured a Romanian or Hungarian town by accident, which unfreezes all frozen minor Axis units (Italian, Romanian and Hungarian).

That is exactly what happened. [:D]

Problem is I have a couple Hungarians stuck out in nowhere land and it appears they are surrounded by black hexes and can't get out.

That's weird, do you have a screenshot for that, with hex ownership enabled?

I've seen this happen - its a bug of some sort. A soviet unit forced to retreat into Hungary or Romania can cause it. The problem is that it allows a very ahistorical narrative to emerge - i.e., Axis ability to completely empty Yugoslavia of all its Italian garrison forces, in addition to simulating a Hungarian war effort at least 400% higher than history ...

Why can't a Russian human do that for me.[:(]

I would love to have the entire Hungarian army turn 3.

You're sure you're in regular movement and not rail transport mode?

Same for both. I have selected rail transport to illustrate the boundaries of the box.

They can't move through Romania and the terrain in that part of Hungary has a high MP cost, so in order to move out of the area, they'd need to move through some rough hexes like the one northwest of that infantry brigade. If that infantry brigade can't move there, then it's a bug, otherwise you're just seeing limited movement ranges due to the difficult terrain.

Until you post a screenshot with the infantry brigade selected in regular movement mode, I can't tell you whether it's a bug or not.

Yikes...

You were right. They actually can march out.

The map was a strange blackish color and I didn't think they would do it.

My bad.
