Helpful Hints to my PBEM buddies

Post by Gary Tatro »

Here is something that might help you in your PBEM games.

1) Like most people I tend to play SBWAW at its highest drill down setting for visibility. Well when you play the VCR playback you will many time get Op-fired at from a unit off the screen. Well this makes it difficult to tell where thoughs units who shot at you are.
So this is what you do. Change your drill down setting. Drill out 1 or 2 clicks. Then hit the VCR play back again. More than likely this time around you will be able to see what hex your opponent is firing at you from. Simple, yes, but you would not believe how long it took me to figure out.

2) If the country you are playing does not have a decent MG, purchase the AA-MG. These MG can hit and get kills up to 30 hexes away. Examples are the American M13 50cal twin AAMG, and the French 13mm DCA MG. I am playing a PBEM game right now Me-French(delay) vs German (advance) My opponet is placing 88's along the far reachs of my visibility and I am pepering him with my 13mm DCA MG's. Each turn I will fire of five shots with each of my 13mm and get 1-5 kills on his 88's. He he they are better than artillary. There is nothing better at devistating Infantry and soft targets.

3) This one is recicled but hey. When you are purchasing your Forward observers make sure you purchase one extra. Place this extra one right next to your HQ. Then you will never be in a situation where all or your forward observers are out of contact.

If I might add that it often gets really dull watching weapons that can't hurt you (rifles at 10 hexes, etc.) fire at you forty or fifty times during the playback. I generally turn my tanks MG's off when firing at armor. I hate how the game has gone back to the bad old days of panicking a tank with LMG's.
