Why can't I transfer this guy?

Post by kaleun »

His experience is above 80 and his name is highlighted in yellow.
So: Why can't I transfer him to TRACOM?

It looks like that group has a withdrawal date, but it's partly hidden under the mouse-over thingy. If so, you can not remove pilots from a group with a withdrawal date such that the number of pilots drops below the max number of planes the group can hold (the group's size in other words). So, first add another pilot, or as many as necessary to get the number of pilots up to group size + 1. Then you will be able to transfer him.

You need more pilots in the group as far as i can see , grab a few rookies (replacemnets) and then you should be able to transfer out the better pilots.

Darn Witpqs beat me to it , but the advice still stands [;)]
sorry for the spelling . English is my main language , I just can't type . and i'm too lazy to edit :)

ANyone have a good rule of thumb for when they transfer pilots to the resrve. Skill and exp levels for their certain field.... I usually shoot for 50+...

Depends on your pilot situation and training scheme.
And how your opponent's pilots are faring.
I like to transfer pilots from the rear groups into the reserve at around 50-55. Then I use them in lower level action areas to get them blooded. When they get to 65 or so, back to the reserves they go.
My carrier and main theater pilot groups only draw from the reserves, unless I can't[8|]

You say back to the reserves once they get to 65 or so? Is that so the front line/heavy action units can pull out the now higher trained pilots? Why not just pull them from the group selection tab...?

If you mean to General Reserve from unit I use as Training Unit?

My rule of thumb is Exp 50 or more, relevant skill 60+ (preferably 70), Defense skill 60+.

So for example I have permanently restricted West Coast fighter squadron, I make it training unit by transferring out all but 1 or 5 pilots with Exp 50 or more. Then I fill it with rookies exp in 30s usually. I set training 100% Escort and check once a week if I have pilots like exp 50, Air 70, Def 60, etc. Transfer those to Gen Res and fill with rookies... Takes a while to get rolling, but it will produce good pilots regularly.

What you just mentioned is pretty much on par with what I do... sounds like I am good to go.

Sounds like you want to keep some higher level exp/skill pilots in your trainers as well. No?

Yep, I usually have one or two higher exp guys in unit to act as instructors. Seems to help a bit.

there have been some tests a while ago that stated it wouldn´t help though. Neither the commander nor "veterans" in the squadrons made any difference.

What is the cap per nationality that you cannot train past? I am at work... without the manual... or am I only thinking of replacements? Or land units?

I think you are slightly mistaken, if these are the tests you mean:

tm.asp?m=2367726&mpage=1&key=pilot%2Ctraining%2Ctest?

For example:

I wonder if anyone has noticed what I have though, in regards to the highest exp pilot in a group on training. I find that the pilot with the highest experience doesn't seem to gain the skill that's being trained anywhere near as fast as the rest of the group. So if I have a group of complete noobs fresh out of the pools, 30exp, low skills and start them training airskill, within 2 or 3 months most of those pilots are closing on 50 experience and 70 airskill, except the one guy who happened to be at the top of the exp list. He gained experience along with everyone else and stayed as the highest exp pilot, but his airskill gains were much lower and he's probably ended up at around 50-60 airskill after those 3 months instead of 70ish like everyone else.

For that reason alone I like to put one veteran in each group. But I havn't seen anyone else mention noticing this.

My experience is along those lines mentioned by others on thread.

And here´s the test on pilot training with veterans and leaders which showed no effect of both. As the forum search is a complete crap one I´ve tried the enhanced google search which worked just perfectly if you set the forum adress as source.

we quote the same test and seem to come up with two different oppinions on it, which is quite funny. So except the fact that higher skilled/exp pilots gain exp/skill slower than low exp/skilled ones, what do you want to say? [&:]

That gaining exp/skill takes far longer the higher a pilot gets is nothing new though, but as far as I read that test I can´t see veterans or commanders helping at all so I wonder what you are up to? [&:]

It´s not like the veteran boosts the noobs, it´s just that the noobs in general "train" faster than the veteran and at some point the veteran is overtaken by the noobs. I´ve tried to get some vets to def skill 70 while they long had air and strafe at 70+ and they just failed to gain def for months, while other squadrons with noobs only went up to 70 in 3 months (starting around 20). But putting a vet into the noob squadrons wouldn´t have made the noobs getting to 70 in, lets say, two and a halve months.

Forum search works just fine for me when ticking Less Precise match. And if you read past your own old comments on that thread, you see that others somewhat disagree with your (and original tester's) conclusion. [8D]

and that changes the numbers that have been posted? [&:] There will always be people disagreeing with others, some may tell you the 100 EUR note isn´t a 100 EUR note even if the note clearly says 1 0 0 E U R...

of course I may well read the numbers wrong, perhaps counting in Austria is different to the rest of the world. [:D]

so where´s the difference for having veterans and no veterans? Of course, there is a difference, you block pilot slots for your noobs that could be trained up in the meantime:

0 Veterans
IJA. 1.1: 43 E, 67 A, 56 D
RAF 1.1: 44 E, 67 A, 55 D

1 Veteran
IJA. 1.2: 44 E, 67 A, 54 D * -1 plane
RAF 1.2: 44 E, 67 A, 54 D

3 Veterans
IJA. 1.3: 44 E, 68 A, 54 D * -2 planes
RAF 1.3: 44 E, 68 A, 56 D

5 Veterans
IJA. 1.4: 44 E, 68 A, 54 D
RAF 1.4: 44 E, 68 A, 54 D

Air Groups with Leader Leadership Skill at 80 results:

0 Veterans
IJA. 3.1: 45 E, 68 A, 55 D
RAF 3.1: 45 E, 68 A, 55 D

1 Veteran
IJA. 3.2: 44 E, 68 A, 54 D
RAF 3.2: 44 E, 68 A, 57 D

3 Veterans
IJA. 3.3: 44 E, 68 A, 53 D
RAF 3.3: 44 E, 68 A, 56 D * -1 plane

5 Veterans
IJA. 3.4: 44 E, 68 A, 56 D
RAF 3.4: 45 E, 68 A, 54 D

or are we now going to say that the 1 skill difference within months of training is coming due to the veterans and would be worth it? If so, then YES, OF COURSE, VETERANS DO MAKE A DIFFERENCE.

and with 5 vets the def skill once was even lower than with 0 vets, yeah, it DOES make at difference. [;)]

Like the original tester said in that thread:

Notice that the only group that failed to hit 44 average experience had neither a good leader nor a single veteran, while every group with either an excellent leader or 3+ veterans hit 68 air skill. The results are so close I suppose it could be an illusion, but I've seen a similar distribution (low-end outliers with no help, consistent high values with help) in other runs so I don't think it's just coincidence.

I'll see if I have time to test this with latest beta during weekend, but my experience tells me that veterans help.

Wow, now that really is persuasive! What you should also post is that the group you mention reached 43 exp - the rest had 44 (in words: fourtyfour (LOL)) with air skill being at 67 (best one 68) and def at 56 (best 58). Yeah, it really makes a DIFFERENCE.

whatever, if ppl want to go on thinking it would help, just believe what you wish to. People tend to believe, otherwise there would not be so much room for religion on Earth.
