Wait for Advanced Tactics: Gold?

The team behind the award-winning game Advanced Tactics is back with a new and improved game engine that focuses on the decisive early days of World War II! Decisive Campaigns: The Blitzkrieg from Warsaw to Paris is the first in an innovative series of operational World War II wargames that also include a strategic element. The Blitzkrieg from Warsaw to Paris simulates Germany’s military successes in Poland and France in 1939 and 1940 (including also a hypothetical “Sea Lion” invasion of Great Britain).

Wait for Advanced Tactics: Gold?

Post by the_grip »

After reading a few reviews of this game, etc., it seems that it would be better to wait for AT:G in lieu of this game. Is there any reason not to?

I do not own this nor Advanced Tactics, but I am wanting to buy one or the other. Since Matrix Games prices their games so high with no demos, it is not an easy choice to pick one of these up.

Any thoughts?

AT:G and DC:WtP are completely different games so it really comes down to what you are looking for. One is not better than the other.

AT:G - Generic wargame construction kit. Very good. Very modable. Great scenarioes included with game and great support from community.

DC:WtP - Very detailed and extensively researched wargame about the first years of WWII. Very detailed OOB's, scenarioes, maps etc. Very good. Great fun to play alone and against other humans. Not moddable at all.

I have them both because they fill diffferent rolls for my game playing.

i own both and they really are different. In AT you're not only commanding troops but you are also controlling production and research. you allocate the production to HQ and distribute new equipment/troops. and you're organizing the setup of your troops. on bigger campaigns, like the barbarossa scenario,s this results in a lot of 'work' but i think it,s incredible fun in smaller scenarios and random games.

DC WtP is really a classic boardgame with a lot of research. the results are close to historical and it is part of rhe fun to reproduce the historical results, trying variants or trying to do better. both games are best played against humans.
