How to judge a cut off cities supply lvl

Gary Grigsby’s War in the East: The German-Soviet War 1941-1945 is a turn-based World War II strategy game stretching across the entire Eastern Front. Gamers can engage in an epic campaign, including division-sized battles with realistic and historical terrain, weather, orders of battle, logistics and combat results.

The critically and fan-acclaimed Eastern Front mega-game Gary Grigsby’s War in the East just got bigger and better with Gary Grigsby’s War in the East: Don to the Danube! This expansion to the award-winning War in the East comes with a wide array of later war scenarios ranging from short but intense 6 turn bouts like the Battle for Kharkov (1942) to immense 37-turn engagements taking place across multiple nations like Drama on the Danube (Summer 1944 – Spring 1945).

How to judge a cut off cities supply lvl

Post by MilRevKo »

Leningrad January 1, 1942

I have had Leningrad cut from the rail line in its present position for 10 turns. Can any one help explain how the supplies for Leningrad work. I have bombed the cities manpower and it sits at 65% damage.

Will the city eventually run out of supply? The Soviet flies supplies to each hex when they can.

thanks in advance

Leningrad is being supplied by a 1 port you have not taken to the north east of your position. the port of Swiriiza has a direct rail link east and keeps Leningrad supplied.

this is why you see the right hook strategy used sometimes to cut that rail link to that port thus isolating Leningrad.

Interesting position... been there before.

Perhaps if you bombed the port it could make life a lot more difficult for the Soviets.

-edit- just checked in the 42 scenario. The ports are size 0 and can't seem to be targeted.

Actually, that seems to be a bug. The system was probably not originally set up to target towns that didn't have at least 1 population. We'll get that on the bug list.

Maybe something to disallow anyway. Isolating Leningrad would be far, far easier if those ports can be shut down remotely...it would potentially fall two turns after the land route is cut without the Germans ever having to cross the Volkhov...

CM:

I had not checked the wiki in several weeks. I have to say that it is a VERY impressive piece of work as it sits right now. And it seems to improve every day.[&o]

hmmm, you don't think port strikes and AA create a extra layer of combat in the initial stages to take the city? lacing ports with 100's of AA in the hopes that heavy damage could be struck early against the Luftwaffe would be a AAR in-itself.

unless 600 guns only shoot down 2 JU-88's ;)

Cookie, you should add something about the "back door" to that page of the wiki as well - hex 83,16 just 1 east of Pavlovo, seizure of this allows the Axis to have an easy drive to get Osinovets and isolation of Leningrad. Q-Ball has done this maneuver twice now

Would be nice to have some view that would show you possible supply lines to/from a location, I took the port NE of  but, didn't know about the other two.

That would seem like a ''Direct Assault'' and in my mind doesn't really qualify as an ''Isolation maneovre''.

The ''Right Hook'' is more of a mass encirclement, flank breach. It's not even close to assaulting Leningrad directly.
