Luftwaffe replacements problem

Post by zebo23 »

Hi mates,

I am playing Axis, turn 53 right now.

I recently realized that my air fleets are not fully equipped due to losses which is quite a normal thing in war. I have been waiting for a couple of turns now for them to be re-equipped with replacements.

For example, I have one air base with - if fully functional and on duty - 84 Ju-88A bombers - but there are only 25 bombers ready for combat as the other ones are designated as "damaged" - well ok - but that's going on for a couple of turns now.

The real miracle is that in my pool there are 530 Ju-88A bombers ready to be used as replacements - is this a bug or am I doing something wrong - for example - can you move air bases or do you have to stand still to let them "refill"?

Thanks for your help.

Best,
zebo

You need to move the air groups that have a high proportion of damaged airframes into the National Reserve, so that they don't continue to fly missions. You should try to cycle your air groups in and out of the NR to keep them a bit freshened up.

Why Jamiam? I mean can you explain why they would refresh faster in the NR?

Isn't it better to keep the me262 gruppen, for instance, by themselves in an airbase with all the support personal maintaining a smaller number of airplanes?

I have placed my me 262 in airbases with just the stab and other 3 squadrons present, and it seems that they repair faster than left alone in 9 squadron full airbases...Myabe its just wishful thinking but at least it makes sense, with a more favorable ratio of mechanics per airplane they would be brought back to ready status faster...At least in real life it works like that.

It's because that when you have them "in the field" you don't have control over individual airbases, or air groups, and can't set them to not fly missions. This goes for both during either your turn, or your opponent's. You only have the ability to set very coarse guidelines for your *entire* on-map air force.

By sending them to the National Reserve, they will not fly any non-training missions, and will recover faster since they will not be constantly attrited by flying missions that you, as a player, have little to no control in avoiding.

Many thanks for the info, Jamian - that helped me a lot!

Just one additional questions: Sometimes you cannot put units into the national air reserve - the button just does not appear in the air base menu window? What can I do?

the button will not be available if they have flown a mission that turn; first thing i do at the start of the turn is to use the commanders report to find units with high numbers of damaged aircraft and move them to reserve; hopefully there is a similar type of unit I can swap back in....
Molotov : This we did not deserve.

Foch : This is not peace. This is a 20 year armistice.

Look at your support levels for your airbases. If you're packing too many airframes into one field it wont repair planes very well.

Could never understand the logic. You have control over a massive army or thousands of tanks, tens of thousands of artillery pieces, millions of soldiers but can't control your relatively few aircraft so they sit on the ground.

That's because Goring will take care of the Luftwaffe for you. Trust him and all will be well.
