Wondering

Post by michael1776 »

I have been looking at this game for a very long time now. It looks like it could be very challenging and fun. However, since I don't often do PBEM my question is mainly whether or not the AI provides any type of challenge? I understand it also has a very steep learning curve? I am used to complex games of this nature, but does this come with an ample instructional manual? This doesn't seem like the type of thing where you can muddle your way through, without a good set of instructions. And lastly, it seems as if the bugs have been fairly well ironed out...is it playable, or are there any game ending bugs yet to be fixed?

Thanks for any help.

Well MJ, this is a fun and challenging game. I don't think it is that hard to learn. The manual has a lot of information, and one of the players (Yearworld) has prepared a great tutorial, which you can get by following the links on the forum.

The AI is good for practice, even if it is not up to providing a real challenge yet. PBEM is the way to go if you want a real challenge.

I'll offer the same advice I've been giving since EiANW was released. If you've never played EiA, just learning the game mechanics and then learning how to play halfway decent each of the 7 different major powers (each with their unique strengths and weaknesses) takes quite some time. With the editor working, there are some alternative campaigns to try out too or you can make some adjustments yourself.

I still consider myself a beginner, and I've been cautious about getting too wrapped around the axle with EiANW and the various issues that have needed resolution. The AI is not great but frankly it's good enough to provide sufficient challenge to learn the game and have some fun with it while we wait for Marshall to resolve several more lingering issues.

The v1.08 hotfix should provide the most stable pbem platform yet and squash most of the lingering major bugs. The next v1.09 patch development should focus on some AI improvements and enhancements. As always, now is a fine time to get started learning the game. And for those who have shelved the game for a while, now is a good time to take another look at the game and help git 'er done.
