Being an AT user for a long time, I was ashonished to see that the loading time for the game from
clicking the Start-button on is 140 s on my PC.
Is this ok or is something wrong with the installation ?[&:]

What are your PC stats? Amount of RAM? Free hard disk space, etc.

I just checked ATG and AT on my Quad-core 3GHz. AT takes about 10 seconds to load the game, and about 20 seconds to load a large scenario like WaW. ATG takes less than 20 seconds to load the game.

I am no expert, but your disk could be fragmented, or your antivirus could be checking the files as they are loaded? Or the files are compressed? Or maybe some files are missing and have to be reassembled (in case you mean loading a scenario). In the latter case, try loading a scenario that game with the game so you are certain that all the files are there.

Thanks for the answer.
No, defragmentation is not the problem.
It lasts so long to do all the initial steps.
(step 1-6.... then step 1 - 140...., all these files during the initial setup)
Afterward a standard scenario (russia41) loads quickly.

My initial startup is about 10 seconds, so it looks like something is awry with your installation.Try turning off your antivirus...

It takes a long time for the game to load on my machine too - I'm running Windows 7, 64 bit, and have lots of empty HD space. Hmmmm...

That was the idea !
Without Norton firewall is loads in less than 10 s.
But at the end, not the best solution.
Is the only game with such a problem.

Maybe a problem to solve for Vic ?

Thanks again.

Problem solved:
Give the .exe the Norton TRUST status and it works fine.

I'm glad you solved it.[:)] For others for whom it might not work, I just thought of another possible problem causing slowdowns: a gunked up registry [:-]. If the registry has a lot of junk in it, it can cause Windows to go round and round looking for things. There is a free program that cleans it up, but I don't remember the name. I have it at the office, so anyone who posts here early can get the name from me. One can probably get it by googling 'free registry cleanup' of something like that.

REGISTRYFIX.EXE is a nice, simple, free program that seems to work well.

My load time is about 80 seconds. Turning off my antivirus doesn't help.

The game needs to load a lot of graphics. It preloads all the graphics needed for AT Gold scenarios. This is the reason it takes some time to startup.

If you then load an AT Gold scenario (random game or for example Russia41) it goes pretty quickly since all the graphics have been already loaded.

However i must admit 80 seconds seems excessive. It should be around 15-20 seconds loading time.

Not sure how to adress this right away, the game does the loading as it does, but I think it is something I will adress in an upcomming patch.

Thank your for taking the time to post your experience.

best regards,
Vic

Hmm, second look. Problem is not really solved.
I thought, that Norton was the problem, but thats not totally true.
Probably, game files are remaining in a "memory" for some time.
A second start after ending the game (within seconds) leads to a game start in 10 seconds time.
After booting the whole PC, the game loading time is 90 s again now.

But obviously, I am not the only one...[;)]

What is the specs of your video card? What OS? I have a four year duo core 1.67MHz laptop running Win7 with 2GB RAM and integrated graphics and it loads ATG in about 30 seconds. My new quad core Win7 machine with 1GB videocard and 4GB RAM loads ATG in about 15-20 seconds. On both machines I'm running Microsoft Security Essentials as my anti-virus.

Video card is: NVidea Geforce 9800 GTX+ (512 MB)
OS is Windows XP SP3
4 GB RAM
Quad Core Intel 8400 (3,0 Ghz)
Anti-Virus is Norton Internet Security

And ATG is the ONLY game , which needs such a loading time.

Hi Meteor2,

Its odd. Of the two dozen testers i used no body reported this problem.

Is there something else that could slow down opening off files? the game needs to load a lot of them...

Did you by any chance install the game on a external harddisk or something else that is read relatively slow? (just checking possibilities here)

As i said before i take your complaint seriously but give me some time to come up with a solution and also make really sure there is nothing on your system thats causing it.

best regards,
Vic

Thanks for the answer.
No, of course the installation is on standard HD.
At the moment, I have no idea, what is slowing down the process...

It loaded up fairly slow last night, I don't use Norton so that's not my problem, I do use AVG, don't know it they could be slowing things down.
