Wars in Africa - Scenarios
Which wars in Africa would most gamers like to see made into a scenairo just curious and if I have left any off please feel free to add: I would like to see more post WW2 scenarios made and no offense to the WW2 designers intended, because a lot of those are very nicely done indeed and I have enjoyed playing them.
Congo Civil war
Chad-Libya war
Sudan War
Ethiopia- Eritrea war, or Ethiopia Somali war
Wars involving the old South Africa
Hypothetical African wars

RE: Wars in Africa - Scenarios
I think civil war like scenarios like shown in the Hispaniola scenario will do well in Africa. Actually in the Hispanolia AAR thread i suggested doing Congo, the heart of darkness... deep jungle, diamonds, barbaric warlords, constant coups, hell you could even throw in some UN peacekeepers.

RE: Wars in Africa - Scenarios
The Congo civil war has always interested me. I have always thought the conflicts in Africa were rather interesting in a historial prospective and think they have rather been neglected in the wargaming community.

G'day,
I'd also vote for the darks depths of the Congo. Don't forget the jerrican-toting Nuns who torched the churches.
A desert war (Sudan, Eriterea, Chad) could be interesting as well.
Cheers,
Lancer

I feel I should add, how about a proper Anglo-Zulu war scenario - or at least the Boer War?

RE: Wars in Africa - Scenarios
While I'm working on the Indochina scenario, I have made a map of Southern Africa which comprises the countries, of Namibia, Zambia, Rhodesia ( Zimbawe-misspelled) Southern portion of Angola, Botswana Large section of Mozambque, and South Africa. I'm using the new unit graphics for the time being since the only images I have are of African nations, not South Africa. I have given all these nations mentioned the militia theory, and changed the units into reserve infantry.

I've actually been wanting to do this scenario since that conflict along with the Congolese civil war areas interest me. I made the southern Africa map by using the map I had made in TOAW3.

RE: Wars in Africa - Scenarios
This scenario is loosly based on the S&T 62 - "South Africa - Vestige of Colonialism" The armies starting out will not have large armies, rather very small and so if you want to go too war with your neighbor you will need to manage resource with unit building. Namibia is rich with resources as in real life. They have a fair amount of Mines, and several Oil refineries while say Botswana is poor resource wise, but has one or two mines, and one Oil refinery. Here are a couple of OOB samples. I have several OOB information which I will upload to the ATG website or email to those who want this.
South Africa beginning forces:
1 Tank Brigade
4 Infantry Brigades
2 Airborne Brigades
1- AA Brigades
Zambia:
3 Infantry Brigades
1 Transport group
1 Air-Defense Brigade
Namibia:
6 Infantry Brigades
1 Tank Brigade

Botswana:
2 Infantry Brigades
1 Lt. Tank Brigade
1 Engineer Brigade

RE: Wars in Africa - Scenarios
I have recently been working on a Congo Scenario. I call it Congo Crisis. It´s situated in 1960-64, and depicts the congo civil war. So far I have made a 100 x 100 map and placed all relevant mines and cities on the map, units, and made a system for trading ore, gold and diamonds for cash, and making that cash available to be spent in a black market for items that could not be produced by the countries themselves.
Still not satisfied with the scenario, since i still want to add: Belgian troops, Mercenaries, possible soviet help, and UN and US help. But i have no idea how to proceed with these ideas, so if someone has ideas, they are welcome.

RE: Wars in Africa - Scenarios
I would have those force come onto the map as you did your Haitian/Dominican scenario by events and or cards. I really liked the way you put that into your previous scenario.
For the Belgians, just make them a people group and do an event that will put them under the control of a certain side if this is possible. Curious if you are thinking about adding border countries with a possible limited intervention by them.....

RE: Wars in Africa - Scenarios
In doing research for this, have you found if any of the armies involved in the Congo civil war had any light tanks, armoured cars and artillery or were mainly just an infantry force, with mortars as their artillery support.....

RE: Wars in Africa - Scenarios
I have found it very hard to get any info on any kind of OOB for this conflict.
So what i´ve done is guess. It´s the best i can do.

RE: Wars in Africa - Scenarios
Well my focus is on the 1960-64 conflict. I´ve found some OOB info on airunits, but basically, that´s all i´ve found. I was aware of the wikipedia links, but thank you for the rest
