How hard is this game to learn

Post by pvthudson01 »

Is it along the line of War in the East? Or how about John Tiller Campaign series or Panzer Campaigns (http://www.johntillersoftware.com/PanzerCampaigns.html)

I know those systems well.

Or are we talking Korsun Pocket / Battlefront type level?

And how good is the documentation

In my opinion like the JTCS or the Panzer Campaigns Series but more similar to a boardgames.
And how good is the documentation

Sufficient but it could be more complete, maybe.

It has a phased approach to each turn which sort of reminds me of squad leader turns. It goes Supply - Initiative - Reinforce (includes amphib and airborne) - Command Chk - Recovery of Disruption - Movement (oppurtunity Fire too) - Direct Fire - Assualt - Withdrawal/Advance.

Most of these are handled by the computer except for Movement thru withdrawal/advance. Also players have to determine airborne/amphib landing areas during the reinforce phase.

This is really a nice game, simple enough but covers all the basics
No problem Chief!

It is way less comlex than those.

Basically, move the counters around and attack!

I agree, although there's fun in the SSG games. Problem for me is I have to keep re-learning them every time I come back.

CC is a bit click-intensive in an old-school way, but is rewarding once you learn the nuances. Not a hard game to learn, but not a click-and-win, either. And the editor is simplicity itself.

Ok, I'll bite.

It's the BEST damn game I have played in recent memory.

Any game you can start playing, enjoying, within a few minutes of playing the tutorial is an AWESOME game. Try doing that with some of the other titles that will remained unnamed around here.

The graphics are plenty good, and with the mods great. The scenarios are interesting, and the possibility of a whole lot more.

The only downside I see is it being a boardgame style wargame. I personally like this style, but YMMV.

I'm looking forward to lots of PBEM games with this system. It works well and moves don't take an eternity. My other favorite game currently is Battlefield Academy, but if push came to shove, I would toss BA before I gave up this wargame.

I like SSG games, but this one is just plain clean and simple.

Ok, I'm done, almost...

Thanks OBSOLETE, JMass the mod master, and everyone else who has brought this game to light...

As the saying goes 'easy to learn, difficult to master' ... which is a good thing.

Over the years I've dabbled with the likes of TOAW, WitP etc but have never been really grabbed by the games. They are more an intellectual exercise to (i) understand how they play and (ii) have the focus (and time) to play a single turn.

With CC I was straight in and feeling I knew what was going on relatively quickly. Easy to understand game mechanics with simple UI. Though looking through the Manual's chapter on how the CRTs etc are working shows there is plenty to get my teeth into if I want [:)]

Cheers
