I 'ave to ask. What do the numbers on the units corespond to?

I think this is abstract and in any scenario it could mean something different.

I think it is power points adjusted for readiness and maybe experience.
Power points are not part of the games calculations (except for staff considerations (or maybe that's weight)) but only there to give a hint of the performance of the unit.

From the manual:

"The number signifies the power points in the unit modified by a lot of stuff. Basically it’s an abstract combat value counter that you can use to compare units with roughly."

Webizen,

This very nice quick guide would be perfect for the ATG Wiki that Vic created. That way its structure would remain intact. The only problem, I suppose is that it might get lost over there since most of the traffic appears to be on this forum. (Perhaps, it'd be nice to have a sticky that pointed toward the Wiki once the contributions started building up.)
