Good day, Michael
The 1.05 UPDATE will be released after Modern Wars: Volume I.
Modern Wars: Volume I is taking all the resources at the moment.

RE: Progress on Patch 1.05
I recently started getting back into the Campaign series and I am also interested in Modern Wars. I have seen some older screen shots of Modern Wars and I'm very much looking forward to it. My only gripe is with the graphics. I'm not asking for a major change, but it would be nice if they were just a tad bit "sharper." I think that would make a big difference. Any chance of that happening in either the CS-1.05 patch or Modern Wars? What's the status / release date?

Can you provide a sample of what you would like the graphics to look like? Based on the limitations of the bmps, there are only so many pixels available. We are trying though!
Modern Wars is making huge leaps and bounds now. With the new American OOBs released, work on scenarios and campaigns have begun. The Middle East portion of Modern Wars is pretty well done, with the exception of finishing the testing and a few scenarios needed to be complete.

Take a look at Dunmorix's mods. That would look very good on the normal game too!!!

Dumasrocks "mods" would just bring a Frankenstein's monster look to CS.
Please, leave CS be. [:-]
It does not need major changes, especially ones from Panzer General, that would alter it's appearance beyond some cleaner graphics.

Cleaner graphics would be nice. Both Panzer Corp and BFC's Empire game use 3D models then take pics from the angles to get their units. Without access to those 3D models, who wants to make a zillion of them to take pics?

Junk, I do not mind the icons as much as the need for sharper resolution terrain features. What CS needs is more of things it does not have, than to add the "chrome" it does not need?
I was never a big fan of PG 3-D because of the confusing 3-D icons on a semi 3-D map.
I'll have to look at some Pnzr Corps screen shots to see what they did there.

If the Panzer Corps graphics could be used for JTCS it would be excellent. I bought the game yesterday -> 4 hours only sleep for me tonight...

Gents:
Since potential "sharper" or "newer" graphics for CS would require a new game engine... assume a new software program... and extended development time... can we just shelve that proposal?[&:]
The only viable option for CS improvement rests in Patch 1.05?
And I have not read of any Matrix plans to "improve" CS graphics in this patch?
Patch 1.05 has been delayed due to Modern Wars development... so IMO I think a realistic release date for Patch 1.05 would be in 2012?
Hopefully Modern Wars will launch soon (like in the next 3 months?)... so Jason & Co. can start work on Patch 1.05 - for all those CS gamers (who have been waiting patiently?) to move forward with an "improved" CS [8D]

Agree with Ed.
Enjoy Panzercorps, but don't try to "adopt" these graphics or use the Dumsrocks mods in CS.

Agreed.
If someone wants to use his mod, they are free to do so, it doesn't need to be incorporated into the game.

RE: Progress on Patch 1.05
HI All
I think this conversation has been done alot and quite simply its at a dead end. Technically this would involve a new game anyway so I can understand why matrix is reluctant to upgrade the graphics and so on..it would actually be easier to make a newer game. This might of been feasible 10 years ago maybe not even 5 years ago but quite simple software and graphics have moved on and the only way to have JTCS with cooler graphics and bells and whistles is to start from scratch..which of course brings me to the next point...
John Tiller is working on his Panzer Battles on his website which is the same scale as JTCS (250m) so why not have matrix and John Tiller collaborate on his panzer battles project and really put all the cookies and bells and whistles into that game engine. ..I think its a good business decision and I think the resources of the 2 companies would really take the experience to a new level.
I do think the forum can be used as a way of the fans of this game letting matrix know that we are ready for a new version of this game and quite happy to pay for it so let patch 1.05 be the last one and lets move on..the game has done brilliantly well but I really think if you want it to have a smarter AI, better graphics than you better find your voice and wallets..I am quite happy to shell out the money to pay for it

RE: Progress on Patch 1.05
I believe technically is absolutely doable you do not need to change the code at all. But it requires a HUGE amount of picture editing and rendering. (I checked the game files.)
CS is a very good game but it's graphics are very ugly in comparison to other hex-based games. It is doable without programming, the question is it feasible for Matrix to do it or not.

because why stop at the graphics? if your going to do the graphics you might as well do the whole thing which in turn means a brand new game..the time and effort to upgrade the graphics on such a old game engine is just not worth the time and effort..I really think patch 1.05 should be the last

Putting a new body on a Model T Ford will not make it prettier?
Some people collect them to drive them, as well as look at them.
I guess you can put on a new body and some flashy paint, add a new motor from a Super Bee and suspension from a Mustang. Maybe redo the interior with one from a Corvette?
Sorry. Ugly is in the eye of the beholder. [:-]
I'm sure that a Model T collector would cringe at my Frankenstein's Monster too.
I'd rather you find a different game than ruin the one I love to play. [8|]

RE: Progress on Patch 1.05
Hi Sztartur
I would say the graphics on Close Combat Cross of iron would be a good place to start (round hills instead of block hills), and than simply put a hexagon over lay on it -Panzer corp did it, panzer general did it (the older PC version), even the play station version had round looking hills with a hexagon over lay--but that would be a incredible amount of work..I am not sure if the old scenarios would work on it. One way to solve this would be to have a legacy JTSC with the older graphics and new JTSC but both with the same game engine. People who want the traditional feel and look could stick with the legacy version others would move on to a new JTSC version of it
my thougths on this -being a semi-non techi

These graphics are a real pain in the ass, let me tell ya!! I love 'em, but having edited these bmp files for well over 10-12 years now, I still hate when I have to make one from scratch, since it is 6 different facings!! Yes, photography of models etc would be great, but then there is still the pixel limitation. Just my .02, I've done tons of graphic edits on all these games and they are just a pain, what else can be said, leave 'em alone or improve them!!!

RE: Progress on Patch 1.05
Hey I have an idea..a software that makes the graphics files for you-im sure there is a market out there because it would reduce the time it takes to produce games..in theory all you need is a 3d model of the terrain you want to make--u can use google maps than the software would read the terrain of the 3d image and than make you a complete file--much like a robot cutting steel for ships to a specific shape- other than copyright issues which could be resolved it should be feasible for the gaming industry to use google maps to produce 3d terrain for games
anyway just as you said mike revamping the graphic files is a pain in the butt!!!
