B17s - not always available?

I am finding that my B17s only seem to be available on alternate days - even if most units are unused on the days when available... any ideas why this is happening?

Other bombers seem to be available inbetween.

Sounds odd - are you sure that the 8th air force and 15th AF aren't simply fixed on Uboat and Avalanche targets and thus not available?

Could you provide some more detail on how they are "Unavailable"? How exactly do you know that they are not available? It is likely as lastdingo is saying, you probably have some Mandatory targeting constraint. Please walk us through what you are doing and what kind of popup messages you are seeing and what is happening. One quick check to see if it is Mandatory targeting is try to assign one of your Tactical bombing groups, like B-25's or B-26's to that same target. If the issue is centered around your Heavy Bombers it really sounds like something to do with the Mandatory Targeting.

I was thrown for a moment - having smashed up one sub pen, I realised that I need to hit a factory (or two?) as well...
