Lookin GOOD

Post by Concord »

I just stumbled across this one...looks good! Been playing CM for years. Been playing Matrix games for years too. Ostfront looks like a worthy addition to my library of games!

I have a few questions about Ostfront before I buy:

- Can you play larger than company level? How large a game would it comfortably handle?

- Are all campaigns centred around just a single core company that gains medals etc? Or bigger formations?

- Are infantry squads represented with every soldier, or are the graphics an abstraction like CMx1 series?

- Can infantry enter buildings? Can buildings be destroyed?

- Would this game run on my old secondary computer which is a Pentium 4 (for LAN games)?

- Have you heard of any big online multiplayer campaigns being run for this, or is it too early?

Looks like a fun game.

Game on!

First I don't know where you got the idea that it is limited to a company.

1 yes. Limited more by what your computer can handle and map size than number of units on the map. 2k x 2k is the largest map.

2 bigger than a company

3 abstracted like CMx1

4 infantry mounts and unmounts buildings and can automount at the end of a movement. It's not cinematic animation though. No destructable buildings or terrain

5 I ran it on an AMD 1.2 with 512 ram and 64mb video card. Not very well but it did work. 2.0 CPU, 1gig ram and 128 video card shouldn't be too bad. Multicore is better. We do NOT have TCP/IP for LAN

6 Too early for MP coop.

Hi all

is there any chance to see in a near future a 1:1 representation of the squads at least as an option if it's a cpu killer feature.

Thx

That would require a completely different game from the ground up.

This is a good game, I can recommend it. And it will get even better. Wargames such as PCO are very rare.

Maybe a PCSF? Panzer Command Shock Force?

Thanks folks. The purchase of this is a no-brainer. Sounds excellent.

I am disappointed it can't be played on LAN, but looking forward to doing a solo campaign where units survive and have a 'history'.

This game has only recently been released right? Is there a patch necessary or anything?

No patch yet. We are working on an update with a few tweaks based on forum feedback.

The is an updated Boot Camp campaign in the Tech Support forum.

The manual has the wrong Hotkeys list. Press K in the game to see the hotkeys and there is a sticky post with the correct list.

The pbem works very well and, if you install Dropbox, the exchange rate is very high.

I read in the manual we can edit the infantry files and add number of models in each squad.
So we could have more infantry troops on the field. [X(]

Absolutely great...

If you setup a DropBox and have both computer on the LAN connected to it, it's almost the same as LAN play.

I am working on something at the moment. Have to work through a few issues first, but this might be easier then it would be to do the Multiplayer Campaigns in CM. Am waiting for the next update that fixes the superior infantry in building issue and then will be running some more test battles. Then will have to see if there is real interest.

The full infantry numbers mod by sztartur sounds great.

Ratzki, glad to hear there are some MP campaigns possibly in the works.

I've just bought this, downloading now. Doesn't seem to support DAP?
P.S. It's going to take half a day at this rate. Any suggestions how I can make use of my download accelerator?
