Installing the Game + Expansions

Post by roth »

First, I want to thank David and Chris Dean at NWS, from who I purchased the base game, for helping me resolve the issue related to the FoG base game. Terrific customer support, guys, and I greatly appreciate your responses.

Now, I would appreciate any advice you can give me about how best to install the game plus all the expansions. I may have screwed that up:

Once I was able to run FoG, I installed it, along with the 5 expansions. After installing the base game (and manually updating it to v. 1.5) I installed the expansions in whatever order I happened to pick them up, rather than in the order in which they were released. It tuned out that the first one I installed was Legions Triumphant. It (like all the later expansions) went into the basic game directory, which on my computer happens to be E:/Matrix Games/Field of Glory. When I opened it, I saw what I expected to see: ie, the opening screen showed that I had version 1.56 (I think), and in the lower left, it showed that I had "Ready" both FoG and LTR.

I then installed the other expansions (I think RoR was the second I installed). So far as I can tell, each of the expansions went through its own update process without a hitch. At the end of it all, however, the opening screen showed v.1.1.1, and the comforting message in the lower left, that told me which expansions were "Ready" had disappeared. When I clicked on "New Game" and examined the scenario list, it appeared only to include scenarios from one of the games -- most likely basic FoG or maybe RoR. I could identify none of the scenarios from SaS, Immortal Fire, or SoA.

Is my best course of action at this point to re-install the 1.5 patch? If I try to do that, I get a message that says I already have v. 1.56 installed, and asks if I really want to overwrite that. I suppose that I got upgraded to 1.56 during the installation/update of LTR. Or should I uninstall the whole kit and kaboodle and reinstall the games in a specific sequence?

Part of my problem is that I don't know what the intro screen is supposed to look like once all the expansions are installed, and I'm not sure how to access the expansions if not through one of the menus ("New Game"?) that lists the available scenarios. Am I correct that all of the expansions get installed in the same directory as the basic game? That appears to be the default.

Any advice would be appreciated.

If you install the base game then install the expansions in the othe order they were released that is safe. Alternatively just patch up to the latest version of the game and enter the serials for the army packs using the new game menu button to unlock your army packs.

I did as you suggested -- installing the expansions in order -- and now I've got it running as intended.

Thanks

Apologize for the stupid question, but what is the order of release? I'm new to the series.

I have a number of army packs to install. I'd like to use the "unlock" method, but I haven't been able to figure out how. Could you give more detailed procedures? Exactly which menu buttons and where you enter the serials?

I would appreciate it.

Thanks, Mike

I was given a serial number for Decline & Fall the other day. This is how I used it. First I opened the folder where Field of Glory was installed.* I then ran FoG.exe and a menu popped up. I clicked ‘Serials’ and a list of expansions popped up. I then entered my serial number next to the relevant expansion. It was then unlocked and ready to go.

* I believe the default locations for the game are C:\Matrix Games\Field of Glory or c:\Program files\Slitherine\Field of Glory
