Loving the game, but am having strategic issues!

Armada 2526 continues the great tradition of space opera games. You guide your race from its first interstellar journeys, until it becomes a mighty galactic empire. Along the way, you'll explore the galaxy, conduct research, diplomacy and trade, found new colonies, maneuver mighty star fleets, and fight epic battles.

Loving the game, but am having strategic issues!

Post by briangw »

Hi all,

First: Love the game! Outside of Sins of a Solar Empire, this is my favorite space strategy game but I have a few questions about what I am doing wrong.

Second, I have been OWNED twice during the tutorial but on my third try, I'm holding my own but still need some advice.

1). I bought a planet from the Qa Qa yet they left their ships in orbit and I get the notification EVERY turn to declare war or ignore. How can I force them out or put that message on auto-ignore?

2). Both times I lost during the tutorial, the Klurgu moved quickly on one of the planets the tutorial suggested I colonize. Given that I am attmepting to branch out early, what's a good starting strategy to at least build up forces to take them on? When I sent my 5 corvettes abnd ark, they arrived several turns later with a fleet of about 10 ships. I'm not complaining, just amazed at how quick they were bumrushing you. I think I'm even more amazed that I lost twice during the tutorial. lol

3). I'm finding that building things quickly costs a lot (obviously), but with the aggression of the Klurgu, I felt I needed to get my fleet up to speed quickly. Are there good strategies for building up finances right away while maintaining the war machine? How does the trade work and does trade work internally (between planets like Troy and Earth?)

4) Is there a way to suggest Qa Qa to declare War on the Klurgu (or insert any race to attack a race that is enemy to you), or at least bribe them to attack a planet that I want to take over?

5) I keep seeing suggestions to take a planet or two and just use them for mining and income. However, with the agression of the AI, how best do you defend it if the planet is just for income generation? Place a fleet of ships there?

Sorry for the amounts of questions, but I'm just blown away that I cannot finish this tutorial and I know I should probably just start a new game, but to get your arse handed to you twice makes me really want to finish it :)

Hello there,

1) I guess you have to wait until he goes away...
2) Make sure to build a second shipyard on your homeplanet...it will allow you to produce more ships (as long as you can afford it of course).
3) The basic revenue comes from Taxes and Mining. Trade can be very nice but you need special features (gems, tourism etc) in order to have a decent profit and the planet importing must have a large amount of population. I am not sure if there's a good planet in the tutorial. You need to build trade centers (to import) which you have to upgrade if you want to export.
4) If you have enough money or techs, they may do it. The diplomatic AI in the game, unlike in other 4x games, really likes to interact and negotiate...just offer them a good deal. You can't specify a specific planet for attack though.
5) You should upgrade the colony factories to level 2...this will allow you to build missile bases which should be enough at the beginning of the game.

Cheers

Thanks Anguille,

While I was waiting for a reply, I started a new game and am finding it easier on the map I am in.
