Gary Grigsby’s War in the East Gets a Major Update

Gary Grigsby’s War in the East: The German-Soviet War 1941-1945 is a turn-based World War II strategy game stretching across the entire Eastern Front. Gamers can engage in an epic campaign, including division-sized battles with realistic and historical terrain, weather, orders of battle, logistics and combat results.

The critically and fan-acclaimed Eastern Front mega-game Gary Grigsby’s War in the East just got bigger and better with Gary Grigsby’s War in the East: Don to the Danube! This expansion to the award-winning War in the East comes with a wide array of later war scenarios ranging from short but intense 6 turn bouts like the Battle for Kharkov (1942) to immense 37-turn engagements taking place across multiple nations like Drama on the Danube (Summer 1944 – Spring 1945).

Gary Grigsby’s War in the East Gets a Major Update

Post by SeanD »

Unit tweaks, scenario changes, and a whole lot more for this exalted WWII mega game

Matrix Games, Slitherine (www.slitherine.com), and 2by3 Games (www.2by3games.com) are thrilled to release the comprehensive 1.04.36 update for their critically and fan-acclaimed strategy game, Gary Grigsby’s War in the East. This important update includes dozens of improvements, fixes and tweaks, including major changes to the First Winter balance along with tweaks to Soviet Guard units, Partisans, and how Fortifications work. There are also changes to how damaged units are returned as replacements, how combat is resolved with multiple attacking units, many aspects of the air war, and much, much more.

In addition, there have been several improvements to the UI and AI and a host of other fixes and adjustments that have been added through months of testing and player feedback. To reflect the many changes and tweaks, an updated manual is also included, which will be updated further over time. We strongly recommend that all owners of Gary Grigsby’s War in the East upgrade to the 1.04.36 release.

David Heath, Director of Operations at Matrix Games, said “War in the East has already been met with so much praise and positive press that further supporting this amazing product is a pleasure for us. The crack development team at 2by3 Games is continuing to build and improve this instant classic so if you haven’t seen what all the buzz is about, now is a great time to hop on board!”

Gary Grigsby’s War in the East: The German-Soviet War 1941-1945 is the spiritual heir to the great Eastern Front board and computer wargames of the past; a turn-based World War II strategy game down to the division and brigade level, stretching across the entire Eastern Front at a 10 mile per hex scale. Gamers can engage in massive, dramatic campaigns, including intense battles involving thousands of units with realistic and historical terrain, weather, orders of battle, logistics and combat results. As with all the award-winning titles made by the 2by3 Games team, factors such as supply, fatigue, experience, morale and the skill of your divisional, corps and army leaders all play an important part in determining the results at the front line. Gary Grigsby’s War in the East comes with 4 massive campaigns as well as many smaller scenarios all with different strategic and operational challenges.

Gary Grigsby’s War in the East represents a truly epic representation of the Second World War on the Eastern Front and is unparalleled in its scale, detail, and ambition!

Get the update here. The update is comprehensive and will bring all versions of War in the East to 1.04.36. Get more information on Gary Grigsby’s War in the East from its official product page.

I can't either. Something going on. I usually get around 500kb/s. This patch starts out at only around 79kb/s and drops off to around 10kb/s. I' ve tried different computers and still no speed!

I rarely have download issues. I have the fastest connection in the world and I have been trying to download this update for several hours. So far I have reached about 31% completed.

Are you downloading it directly from our FTP server, or through the "Check for Updates" application in the Game Menu?

I'm trying direct. I just tried again and I'm getting about 12kb/s. I just downloaded a file from another website and I was around 400kb/s? I have the latest Beta, so it's not a big deal.

Tried both Erik and I am still stuck in first gear, or maybe even reverse. I am not going to get upset, I'll just try tomorrow, tomorrow.

Thanks.

I downloaded it but only got speeds of 20 - 30 kb/s, took about 1/2 an hour.  I have noticed direct downloads from Matrix have been getting slower over time.

Direct link is ultra slow for me, too. I'm at work on a huge pipe and getting 12kB/s - ~50min.

EDIT: Updater is FAR better. >500kB/s.

I tried several times to update via the update function on the game menu "Check for updates" and uniformly got the the same result...failure.  It would give me an error message saying that there was no file available and to contact Matrix Games.

I downloaded the update file from the website directly and that worked.  I'm not sure where the problem is with the "Check for Updates."  It could be on my side as I am in temporary housing and have a much slower connection then I usually have.

Erik you can disregard the email I sent you as the update via direct download worked.
