Yo Chicken of the Sea,

 What little boats? Are they barges, PT boats, Sub chasers, what? what?

:D HOLD THE MAYO :D Aren't you afraid of loosing your standing in the "Art of Wargaming" forum?

I have no standing in the AoW forum.

I'm talking about all classes of boat smaller than DD.

I don't even use barges. Have no idea.

I use the as escorts. I tend to run short on DDs sometimes.
This solves both problems. What to do with them, and how to dispose of them. The japanese subs have an uncanny ability to turn the little boats into wet matchsticks, but meanwhile the transports may get away.

;) Here is what I think you want to know.

AG = Barge: (IJN) useful for supply runs to bases that are to dangerous for APs or AKs. Comes in two flavors, small & large. On how to create barges see page 58 of the manual. Small cargo capacity, but hard to intercept, aircraft (execpt for fighter bombers) need to be set a 100 ft to attack because aircraft only strafe barges. No VPs if sunk.

LCM = Landing Craft, Mechanized: simular to IJN large AG but used by allies.

LCVP = Landing Craft, Vehicle & Personel: simular to IJN small AG but used by allies.

MSW = Minesweeper: needed to clear enemy mine fields and any offensive mine fields you may have laid.

PC = Patrol craft: (IJN) usually armed for ASW work, useful as escort to low value TF or when short of DDs.

PG = Patrol Gunboat: (IJN) usually armed for ASuW, useful as AA escort if none better avaiable.

PT= Patrol Torpedo Boat: form in small (< 10) TFs, good for busting barges and harassing enemy bombardment TFs. Don't expect much against DDs or above.

SC = Subchaser: simular to IJN PC & PG, useful as submarine bait untill experience above 40.

:D The manual has more info on this. You could also try a forum search if I haven't answered all of you're questions. Hope this helps :D
