Grymme's DAK Scenario

Post by Jeffrey H. »

Been playing this for the first time. It's a lot of fun. My first try I didn't know what to do, so I simply passed the turn to the AI, which I set up as the Allies. On the next turn, I was told I lost the game for not keeping enough troops in Egypt. Ok...I get it now.

So the next time I tried it, I immediately invaded Egypt with the Italians. So far, so good. Here's a screen shot of the Eastern battlefield. Last turn I got hit with sandstorms and lost a bunch of readiness.

I'm having some trouble with supply. All the cities I have are maxed out making it. In addition I've captured Buq Buq and turned it to making supply. But I'n not doing so well at the front. In addition, on the Western end, I've got loads of forces in Tripoli which have to be ferried over bit by bit into Benghazi. Then they have to trek on over the entire map to the Eastern side and get into Egypt. I need to do this soon because the Allies are reenforcing and my forces are suffering attrition which I need to offset to keep enough forces in Egypt. Here's a screenie of the group, the so called 20th Corps.

These guys in the South East are completely out of supply and I can't figure out why. All units under the "30A Settoro HQ" are just lost.

What scenario is this you're talking about? Is it new? Is it at the AT Community site?

End of Oct 10 1940. I've more or less swept through the Allied forces that have I've come into contact with. So far it seems like very light forces composed mainly of scouts and screening units. I have seen a few very unsettling formations of Matilda's which I recall as being well nigh invinible in the North African era. I don't have any 88's to take them out so I rely on airstrikes.

Also having some graphics glitches; Notice the terrain in the lower left corner of the out of supply forces above. Some sort of corner folding.

End of turn, Oct 15 1940. Took Sidi El Barrani this turn. But encountered the tough fighting units of the Allied Army with my armoured forces. It's going to get ugly.

End of the next round, Oct 15th 1940. I've completely surrounded the Allied battlegroup and hit it hard with my airforce. I was able to gain air superiority several tuns ago and now I can fly with out interception:

Hi Jeffrey

Nice to see one of my scenarios getting some AAR. I really like DAK. Are you playing the full campaign or the short Grazianis offensive?

I think the rule about the italians having to attack into Egypt is in the briefing but i might have missed it. Are you playing against yourself, another human or the AI. Because if its the AI i should probably do something about that garrisoning Egypt event - since the AI cannot sense it it shouldnt be affected by it.

As for the terrain bug i will look into it, i thought i had fixed that issue, but maybe i didnt in Grazianis offensive (if that is what you are playing). The supply difficulty thing is intentional (supply was one of the main reasons why the axis lost the war in north africa) but if it becomes absolutely impossible let me know and i will investigate.

Anyway, hope to see more of this AAR and thanks for reporting the issues.

I'm playing the full campaign, Allies set to AI. I scanned the briefing but didn't catch the rule.

I think the supply problem is a bug for the 30A Settoro HQ and subordinate units. Can the territorial militias enter Egypt ?

The invasion rule is in the briefing, under events...

5 EVENTS

Moussolini offensive
The axis need to keep at least 500 powerpoints in Egypt between rounds 2-8. If this condition is not met the axis player looses.

Another issue I've found is when I encountered the O'Conner Force 42, it had a ship sft in it and it was moving it around inland.

I am pretty sure that is an ATG AI bug. I have had that happen in my ATG random games also. You attack an inland city only to discover there are cruisers in it.

But i will take a look at the scenario as a whole when i have some time.

Hmm. ok.

If you PM your email i will send you a new version of the scenario that should fix the graphics problem and also should make the AI not suffer from garrisoning Egypt enough and fixes the 30A Settoro bug.

The inland ship thing i havent been able to reproduce so far. What kind of ship is it?

My first game was Allied General of the SSI Panzer General series. It started with the North African campaign. Still remember the sound that was displayed when I clicked on a group of Matildas and moved them for the first time. Great!

Jeffrey, if you like to fight a human opponent, I will be ready for a game.

PM Sent. The Italians have made it all the way to El Alamein and a few steps beyond but got stopped by attrition and a new influx of Allied troops. Also, I made a stupid attack with my airforces on Alexandria which resulted in a huge loss of irreplaceable aircraft.

I think this might be the high water mark for the first Italian campaign:
