gids-tarhunnas(no tarhunnas)

Post by gids »

IM so badly screwed but i use the playground me tarhunnas now to test ,try out things...what use does it have now to be a turtle and make it a boring game huh..!
i thought more then once to give up ,but like i told tarhunnas theres a certain fun to try to get back on your feet and grasp things again
tarhunnas is an excellent opponent to keep you of ballance .mistakes i made:i admit plenty but it was my 2nd GC i think against a human opponent and in the meantime i learned alot ,i won 2 others because of the play with tarhunnas and atm im playing 2 others which go ....much better ,i seriously underestimated the ability of HQ buildup from the germans ,even now sometimes i have my thoughts on certain things in the german playbook, would 4 or 5 russian elite corpses be pocketed by understrenght regiments and not be able to break out?its a bit frustrating in the game .
my goal to achieve berlin is vanished the moment he took my whole southfront ,at that moment i was about to throw the towel in ,but with the fight at stalingrad evolving to my side i got hope again ,so i started pushing tambov, once again i was off balance because of the german ability to fight back in the blizzard and he bagged my units, and again the rule bagged=lost even if it is with understrenght fatigued units, once again i saw elite units dissepear in the dust of history, but again i said hmmmm lets start a small offensive in the crimea ,the timing is better,so i started a full blown offensive and broke through ,i cutted off 4 or something from his units ,but guess what he got supplied by that port even a small supply does it ,he gets some reinforcements in the blizzard ,wtarts a new counteroffensive ,cut cut cut ,and there we go 4 or 5 elite corpses cut off ,the only thing they do now is playing chess and waiting till they can go to some german prisonercamp, why fight out hmm :p,i knew from recon that reinforcements are coming ,but i was thinking ...blizzard ,at a certain moment i had him surrounded with corpses ,i was convincend this time i had him...i guess not,as you can propably see from the AAR with tarhunnas i started a new offensive around tambov, why?
his lines are thin so its an opportunity
i want his frontline units to be weakened before the summer starts
damage his panzers there(although i dont see them dropping in the oob,Reserves somewhere?)
plus waiting ??? what good will that do
anyway the summer coming and he will probably make 1 big HQ buildup from the crimea till leningrad bag my whole front and then it will be game over:p
the message i want to give is keep playing even on the losing side of things, theres still fun in it and a certain challenge,i dont say i wont give up ill see how the summer evolves but if he like reaches the mapborder.....then even i dont see the point ,although ....maybe an alamo scenario huhh, although the rule bagged=lost comes to mind
Anyway i asked tarhunnas for a rematch after this :p ,it is just to horrible to face,im actually waiting sometimes to open the turn because il get sick of seeing it

problems i am facing... my whole frontline is messed up i cant reorganize because i need every ap to make divisions,i cant make alot of corps sized units for the same reason.what will happen most propably
he will attack somewhere where i am the weakest, penzo or somewhere in the south,i dont have the units to make it strong atm,but i will not give in ....yet ;)
Tarhunnas did play excellent and im sure every turn he played he had a big smile :p

so il start posting Screenshots huh maybe fun for you aswell, never done it and dont ask me how to do those arrows and so on

il post SS next turn i get from Armaments all fronts ..its a mess i warn you :)

here you can see the crimea disaster ,of my last offensive ,no reserves to free them and surrounded means lost as a russian most of the times, only because of the mud theire holding ill try to ressuply them ofc
the outlined circles is my attempt to make reserves to stop them at that gap and the new caucas front i cant use atm because i simply dont have the units

Hi all,

Nice to see you posting here as well! [:)]

Although things are not "rosy" for the Soviet side at the moment always remember that time is on your side!

The Red Army will grow and will out size the Germans - even though "Tarhunnas" made some great strides deep inside Soviet Union hes forces will undoubtedly get weaker and weaker whilst your forces will grow stronger!

I don't think that you will manage to reach Berlin in 1945 but many interesting battles lay ahead in 1943 and things should be much better in 1944 and 1945!

BTW, Stalin and his generals made many mistakes in historic WWII and you have certainly done your part regarding that in this grand campaign - but this should not mean that you should ever accept defeat and resign!

Never surrender - always fight! [:D]

Ty for the kind words ,like i wrote to tarhunnas im starting to be the personification of stalin :p,anyway next picture shows what i think are danger areas,i used availble AP for the crimea, tbh he HAS to be weak somwhere ,but the crimea will be cleared in seconds and he will have avalble panzerarmy again thento bring to penza, hence im putting corpses in the back, maybe i should place em more in the Rear like 5 to 6 hexes ? in the woods ill do that i think ,i let you know

Hi all,
ORIGINAL: gids

Ty for the kind words ,like i wrote to tarhunnas im starting to be the personification of stalin :p

[:D]

No problem at all - thank you for playing WitE!

BTW, can you please post the "Commander Report" screens of your units (filtered by: infantry, armored) so that we can see how strong / weak your units are (and see how is their Morale and Experience)?

Thanks in advance!

gids, do you have a reasonably good Rifle formation in Sevastopol?

Your main problem seems to be that you have virtually no reserves anywhere.

I don't know what you have in the northermost part of the map, but there's probably room for thinning out the line significantly. There's currently little to no point to try to remove the Finns from the game, because it isn't going to happen. Tarhunnas also can't really threaten any significant city in the north, so more than a token resistance might not be necessary.

Comrade beat me to it, but that is what I have noticed is it seems like you get a good quality grouping of troops together and have a fight someplace only to run out of what limited reserves you had and Tarhunnas winds up having the last word, which is usually bad news for you unfortunately.

I admire your tenacity to keep going and have no doubt you are learning a lot about what the mid game Russians are capable of and some of their limitations. I have learned a lot just watching the AAR from both sides.

Gids, seriously, stop attacking for about 6 months and build up some reserves. Right now the correlation of forces is virtually even, and you are simply feeding your troops into the Wehrmacht grinding machine. You do not have the chops to press an attack right now, the German is going to beat you in a mobile fight.

The Red Army is a good 2 million men short of where it ought to be.

There is a real danger here that you're going to be nibbled to death.

well the only small plan i have is maybe to make a counteroffensive at the bulge of penza,IF he attacks there, hence i keep all the tankcorpses there,if he doesnt attack there ill use them as a mobile force, theyre my only reserves at the moment, and yes klydon very annying he does seem to have always the last word,i couldnt use HQ buildup ,most propably i shouldnt have attacked in the crimea and saved those forces and keep building the lines, problem is im to offensive minded sometimes....but its getting better,i have to :p

Don't try any kind of counteroffensive.

Let him come to you, beat back any penetrations, the panzers out in the open can be smacked around. What you need now is a static line and time to build up a strong force.

Don't even think about using HQ buildups. You need every single AP you've got to build units and for corps conversions. Buildups are a luxury you cannot afford.

At this point, I would consider holding off on infantry corps conversions as well. They will get cheaper in 1943 and you can build them up then.
