For devices, if I were to change the description of 46cm/45 T94 Gun to 18.4in/45 T94 Gun would that have any affect OTHER than just converting metric to inches?

It's just a name. You could call it Big Kaboom if you like.

I've done this with a lot of the guns larger than 100mm. I just couldn't do the math quick enough to enjoy surface combats. I changed most of the guns to inches (I hate that the US isn't on the metric system, though. )

There is no game effect on making the description change. As msieving says, you can call it anything you want. It's still a big gun.
The older I get, the better I was.
