Questions: Thinking about shifting to PBEM

This sequel to the award-winning Crown of Glory takes Napoleonic Grand Strategy to a whole new level. This represents a complete overhaul of the original release, including countless improvements and innovations ranging from detailed Naval combat and brigade-level Land combat to an improved AI, unit upgrades, a more detailed Strategic Map and a new simplified Economy option. More historical AND more fun than the original!

Questions: Thinking about shifting to PBEM

Post by PrinceBolkonsky »

Is it possible to fight out the detailed tactical battles when using pbem mode? Is it just a matter of patience or are there bugs and other problems?

Or, is all the combat fought out using instant combat results?

Does anyone place this game with just two or three players?

Is trade a major part of pbem?

Just to explain why, putting aside the absolutely enormous programming challenges of integrating detailed combat into PBEM, we thought there would be very few players who would have the patience for such a feature -- when you think of how many turns there are in combat and how many units must be moved, and then how many battles break out each turn, it becomes apparent that a single PBEM game even between two players who send back turns each day would probably take more than a year. (And by the time a battle would end, players would probably have forgotten what the heck they were planning to do on the strategic level.)

a) Does anyone place this game with just two or three players?

b) Is trade a major part of pbem?

a) I think most games are with max players, but you can very well have fewer, but then some HRs needs to be in place to make sure one player does not utilize on the AI

b) It can be, it also depends upon what nation you play and how the other nations act towards you. As the Ottomans you are normally more than willing to sell excess wool/cotton and at times some textiles to make sure you bring in some cash. As France extra wool/cotton/textiles is nice but not a must etc.
